Nine secured its second big win of the week as the only network with a reality format. Nine saw its share up 4 points to its best Tuesday result since February (28 weeks ago). Seven had its lowest Tuesday share since April dropping 4. 10 was down over 2 points as well while ABC and SBS both improved their shares from last week.

Nine won all markets except Perth where Seven won by 7 points. Nine easily won the key demos 13 points clear of second-placed 10 in 25-54 and 16-39.

The Block’s ratings continued to soar – up to its best Tuesday result of the season. ABC’s 7.30 was second in its timeslot with The Project Presents 9/11 third with just 352,000. Seven’s Holey Moley bombed as expected.

Later The Hundred hit a season high of 484,000 up 70k on the previous week. Cheap Seats missed the top 20.

10’s soccer coverage missed the top 20 in total people and key demos.

Not a good start for 10’s first primetime soccer telecast in more than a decade.

Seven News had a small win in Sydney and Adelaide, but struggled after 7.30pm with the FTA premiere of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood also flopping in ratings.

Exactly why Seven decided to air Holey Moley USA is beyond me. No one gave two damns about the show when the local version limped towards the finish so no idea why anyone thought that there is any appeal in the USA version.

Is it really primetime? Pre-game coverage at 9:30 with a kickoff not until 10:00pm.

The numbers for the soccer were extremely low. Diabolical. It will take a long long time to get any traction. It was not really promoted either.

Seven and Ten literally just gave up last night. I still am gobsmacked at this decision to hold back the Australian survivor finale till Sunday. It would have done very well last night with less competition, plus it would have been a strong lead in to The cheap Seats.

Yes, Seven did give up last night, but Ten didn’t. Yes they were supposed to have the Survivor Final which now goes against The Voice Final, but at least they had new programming on all of primetime (East Coast), which doesn’t happen often. They had The Project 9/11 Special, The Cheap Sets and Live Soccer from 7.30pm-midnight (plus News and normal Project 6-7.30pm). Although, it didnt rate that well unfortunately.

I agree, there are 2 trains of thought though that I’m sure applied.

  1. Tuesday - as expected, keeps up the momentum, free space to over achieve and would boost the Cheap Seats with a larger than usual lead-in - they’d want Cheap Seats to build an audience as it gives them another solid hold on an 830/9pm audience much like HYBPA.

  2. Sunday - ensures they aren’t running dead air against Voice/Block combo, provides momentum going into the week of premiers with Masked Singer and Making It.

My view is that Survivor will perform fine on Sunday but I wouldn’t expect it to over achieve. I suspect it’ll probably hold around 700k which would be around what it has achieved all season, maybe a slight boost for the Winner Announced segment.

Whatever 10 did I don’t think they’d escape criticism. If they kept it Tuesday they’d have nothing to air on Sunday and they would have been slammed for not having content ready to go in that timeslot etc. Though The Project special could have aired on Sunday 12th at 730… I don’t know - doesn’t impact me, can’t stand The Voice so I’ll be watching Survivor.

I think they made the right call, however 10 did have content for Sunday, they just didn’t want to launch the Masked Singer against Voice Finale so held it over a day.

The match was mentioned in newspapers in recent days but the articles didn’t mention that 10 would broadcast it. You would have to go to the TV guide to find out.
