#3

Another new record high for Travel Guides but The Good Doctor also went up, with the season finale to air next week.

#4

No wonder Nine is ecstatic with MAFS and the success of the shows airing after it.

The flagship and halo effect have claimed a huge amount of casualties and the hit list only seems like it is growing. Ambulance Australia, MKR, Sunday Night Takeaway, Dancing with the Stars, Good Doctor, Instant Hotel, Hughesy and Changing Rooms have all been destroyed or damaged badly.

#5

Survey high for 10 News Sydney, perhaps a few extra viewers tuning in to check out the new studio.

#6

Disappointing figure for Neighbours, which was a brilliantly articulated/illustrated episode.

#7

Australians gave up on that show long ago.

Heads need to roll at Ten sooner rather than later. It’s appalling that several episodes of MAFS on 9now alone have had more viewers than anything on Ten last night. Troubling times.

#8

How is sacking management at Ten going to stop MAFS from having a strong run? It’s the biggest show on air right now and I can’t see anything any network puts up against it bring it down right now. Did Ten sack their management when MKR was an even bigger show with viewers over 2m and Ten was in the same position?

#9

Seven need to do something about 7pm. the news delivers almost a million people to that slot most nights and then about 40% were gone within the half-hour last night. It was even beaten by ACA in Seven -loving Perth last night.

Either Home and Away needs a serious revamp (which will take months to manifest onscreen) or needs to be bumped to somewhere that it does less damage.

#10

Just for those wondering. last Year I’m a Celebrity got 570k last night Ambulance got 370k. Thats a 200k drop. MKR got 1 mill last year and got 750k last night. That’s a 250k drop - roughly 25%. So which is a worse drop?

#11

Firing people isn’t going to stop the juggernaut that is MAFS. DWTS is a quality production and Ambulance Australia is excellent. However, viewers are hellbent on killing brain cells with trash TV.

Side note: is there a reason 10 have held off showing Leaving Neverland until Friday 8:30pm rather than the same day as the US? Scheduling it in a dead on arrival time slot seems bizarre.

#12

MKR obviously but it is a 10 year old show.

The call for heads to roll has been made for many reasons, not just the one you’ve wrote about. But yes, PART of the reason heads should roll is the fact that current management have failed in large part, to build a remotely resilient line up of shows with loyal audiences.

#13

This was discussed in the 10 Programs thread, but likely due to the fact that the show is embargoed until 10:00am Friday (hence being avail on 10 play from 10:01am Friday) which is when Part 2 will have finished airing in the UK as the show is a co-production between HBO & Channel 4. So Friday / Saturday really are the first available slots for 10 to air this

#14

MAFS is not the only reason people think heads should roll.

#15

Ahh thanks.,

#16

I don’t think so 10 has lost a larger percentage of people. Not to mention most of those seem to be in the demographics. 10 has lost around 35% compared to 7 who have lost roughly 25%

#17

Firstly, the majority of things Adrian Swift said in the article you linked to is straight up BS but that’s a matter for a different thread…

In regards to the ‘hit list’ you outlined, I would argue the performance of all those shows isn’t due directly to MAFS’ successes but other factors such as viewer fatigue (MKR), show airing on the ‘wrong’ network (DWTS) or bad scheduling (Instant Hotel & Sunday Night Takeaway)

#18

Will The Front Bar be next? The new AFL season starts on Thursday March 21. But since Thursday night AFL will be played in the first five weeks of the season, that means The Front Bar will have to be shown on Wednesdays, up the new-look Footy Show which will have massive lead-in from Married at First Sight, not to mention the season finale of MAFS in mid April. This week is week 6 and the start of second half of MAFS.

#19

The article was about ratings so I think you can bring up the matter here.

I agree with all the factors you outlined. And that MAFS taking a bigger audience share in timeslots those shows I listed were scheduled in, is a significant contributing factor.

#20

The ratings woes for Today continue.

#21

Maybe in media discussion circles, but I suspect the majority of households don’t really care about new sets.

I reckon Home & Away should be bumped to 7TWO, with a new nightly current affairs program on the main channel.

But don’t have it under the “Today Tonight” brand, because that’s been dead on the East Coast for five years and is probably considered to be toxic on this side of the country after multiple scandals.

Yep, Seven might currently be a distant 2nd (and will probably #1 again across the week when the AFL returns), but Ten have been routinely fourth behind the ABC in recent times.

Sure Nine has Married At First Sight, but that is only one program and the flow-on effects are only going so far as proven by their struggles at breakfast. Will The Voice (which has struggled in recent years against House Rules & a resurgent MasterChef) perform anywhere near as well as MAFS for Nine? I highly doubt it, because the format is probably just about on its last legs like The X Factor was a few years ago.
