Biggest season premiere for Travel Guides, benefitting from Married at First Sight lead-in. The show’s debut in 2017 pulled 570,000 while season 2 last year got 613,000.
Travel Guides also beat The Good Doctor in the major demos which is pretty impressive, although I think the medical drama will beat TG after timeshifting.

Married at First Sight continues to grow as MKR slides. As the season drags on I suspect MKR will slip further, especially when it moves back to 7.30.

Travel Guides becomes the first series to topple The Good Doctor.

Hughesy struggles but retains a decent chunk of the Celebrity lead in.

Very strong return for Travel Guides. Just goes to show how a program can grow if they support it.

It’s also a natural fit out of MAFS, in terms of the subject matter/audience. Nine have been doing excellent promos too and should be commended for how well they’ve managed to program compatible lead out shows after MAFS and The Block.

Outside the top 20 The Resident did fairly well at 25th, Manifest that was available on 9Now was just 34th and NCIS: Los Angeles 35th.

The Drum is rating better than previous ABC 6pm offerings slightly ahead of Pointless on Ten in total people.

Sunrise won every market yesterday and was just outside the top 20 in 22nd place for one of its best results of recent months. The result was 80,000 ahead of Today. Same morning last year the difference was 6,000.

Worth noting that Travel Guides is scheduled for just one hour (in contrast to anther network’s upcoming 9pm offering).

Fantastic start for Travel Guides. I will never watch MAFS but give credit when it’s due. It’s a powerhouse at a time MKR is slowing and dying. I predict this is probably the last (or penultimate) season for MKR.

Some on here would be furious at MKR’s demise. Good to see some competition for Seven so that they can pick up their game.

We know. You’ve only said that 50 million times already.

Good luck with that theory.

Both Celeb and MKR are underperforming now. It seems like both shows this year have lost some viewers to MAFS again. You would think next year the networks would be considering new approaches to tackling MAFS at the start of the year. Celeb clearly worked without MAFS as competition so the show has enough of a potential audience, but maybe they should try with a new reality concept to open the year and move celeb somewhere else when there is less competition on Seven and Nine?

Travel Guides numbers are really impressive. For me this is the best show on TV at the moment.

Let’s see how they go next week with “new” reality formats like Dancing with the Stars and Changing Rooms.

Yes, compared to the dominant performer. But can they realistically be expected to match or better MAFS? A risky new series launch is the only thing that will give Seven or Ten the opportunity to take down MAFS. Given their recent track record of launching new series, you can see why they’re reluctant to take the risk opposite televisions biggest juggernaut.

The MKR numbers look bad because everyone remembers the highs and it has faded fast. Imagine if Seven had anything doing 800k opposite The Block - we’d consider it a hit right?

All eyes will be on how Takeaway, Dancing with the Stars and Changing Rooms go against MAFS. How those shows perform will determine what the level of appetite for 7.30 timeslot change is in January 2020 at Seven and Ten.

Being risky makes no sense. Why would you risk Nine and MAFS getting even bigger?

I think Seven or Ten need to create a copycat version of MAFS to dilute its dominance. Worked with Australian Spartan taking the sparkle off Australian Ninja Warrior. I would create a show which is a cross between Love Island and MAFS and fill it with despicable human beings that viewers love to hate and run it at the end of the year. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
