Nine almost nine points clear of struggling competition. Seven won Perth by 0.2% with Nine ahead elsewhere. 10 was again an easy second in the key demos as Nine nudged 40% in 16-39 and Seven dropped below 20% network share. Nine won the demos in all markets with 10 second in all as well.

Day 2 of the battle of the reality shows mirrored Monday with falls across the board but the finishing order remaining the same. Married At First Sight outrated the combined audience for Survivor and MKR.

MKR finished fifth in its timeslot behind SBS in total people and there was bad news in the key demos as well. In 25-54 11th place and in 16-39 12th place (lower than Project 6.30pm).

Hoping to have the correct date on today’s post

MAFS’s second episode was higher than the same episode last year which had 954,000 in revised figures.
Thomas Markle interview on Nine won by default basically. The Hellfire special should have rated higher if not for the low MKR lead-in.
MKR dropped to a new series low which should make Seven nervous. The only joy for Seven is that its news won in five city totals, including a substantial victory in Melbourne by around 30,000 viewers.
Great Australian Railway Journeys did well on debut. However I still don’t think it’s a good idea to have two shows of the same genre on the same night, one hour apart, and overlapping by around 10 minutes.
(My brand Panasonic Blu Ray recorder/PVR, which has a triple tuner, was on overdrive last night, tapping MKR, Great Australian Railway Journeys and Griff’s Great Australian Rail Trip simultaneously, while I watched Survivor All Stars)

Great news

400k is a disaster for 7. Survivor is dangerously low. But again its demos are doing ok and is up on I’m a Celebrity last year and the network percentage is up on last year. I am sure it will get some strong catch up figures like it did last year as well.

Survivor has also proved to do extremely well with consolidation figures, 100,000+ on many occasions.

Seven can’t leave MKR there four nights a week doing those numbers with survey starting next week

Alarm bells would be ringing at 7 but what can they do?

Bump it to 8.30/9.00 ? Cut down the number of episodes?

The entire season of MKR: The Rivals were filmed last year so it’s not possible to cut down the number of episodes.
Seven can start Pooch Perfect as soon as next week but I fear it will suffer the same fate as MKR, plus I feel Pooch Perfect is a weekly show not a multiple night show. Also Seven has just axed The Force, and may not have enough number of new episodes of Border Security and Highway Patrol in the can.

Seven are trying to increase viewers tonight during MKR by including a Big Brother announcement!

I would say 7 would look at all alternatives before bumping or pulling the episodes, that would probably look worse than leaving it there it it doesn’t drop any lower.

They could start by changing the promos up and increasing their advertising mix. Reducing the length and or amount of episodes would be a good start.

Would anything else they’ve got like Pooch Perfect or factuals rate any higher? Probably not.

I think Big Brother will be moved forward. The fact they are showing a teaser tonight means things but be coming sooner than expected.

After 10 years they probably had to try something though. It has had a good run. Not many shows get 10 years. 7 just needed to try something completely new and different rather than MKR.

I think there is some interest in the Pooch show.

I find it quite refreshing not to have to commit to a tentpole.

Everything about that show sounds horrific.

So did Married at First Sight.

Of course it has. But MKR still managed 10 seasons. There isn’t a lot of shows that have done that. That is the point. Not a my cooking show is better than you argument.

Nobody was expecting MKR to beat MAFS but surely Seven were expecting a bare minimum of 650-700k… to be beaten into 5th place by a railway documentary on SBS is shocking.
