Nine won another Tuesday but the network share was down 1.5% from the previous week, most of that going to Seven with recorded their best Tuesday share in 11 weeks.

The second episode of The Amazing Race was down 100k from launch but still managed to rank second overall in the demos. The Block and Love Island rated lower than the previous week with Seven’s Bride and Prejudice up slightly, recording its second highest audience of this season. The second instalment of One Born Every Minute was steady and managed to beat Love Island in the key demos.

Big audience for Sunrise with +300k and to make the top 20. Today was 120k behind - it had the same rating as Sunrise’s 6am - 7am segment.

Note: There was a coding error by Seven in the 6:30 portion of the news. The above table has corrected figures.

Big fall for The Amazing Race as expected, but it still did quite well in the demos (only 19,000 behind The Block in 16-39). 10’s network share was steady from last Tuesday.

Big drop for The Amazing Race. Demos are still good. However, you would want more than that. Hopefully when the block finishes it can pick up some viewers. Another piece of evidence though that heritage brands do not work! If only 10 had tried out The Circle instead.

But Survivor has grown year on year and had record ratings this year.

Love Island is not exactly setting the ratings on fire either and that’s only in its second season.

Both valid points.

Survivor is a rare exception. It has increased. However, I don’t really think the other networks that tried the concept got it right to begin with. I always thought there was an audience for a proper Australian Survivor. 7 did a celebrity version and 9 did a cheap one. I just wouldn’t class it as the same category as The Amazing Race - which 7 tried quite successfully.

its not. But Love Island is providing 9 with a lot of online viewers, demos at 8:30 and I am sure a tone of social engagement. Something they probably expected from the show outside total viewers.

Nine CEO is on record with the TV Blackbox podcast stating that if they cared about total people Love Island wouldn’t be on air right now.

Amazing Race dropped, but don’t think it’s fair to say heritage brands don’t work, It rated better than Bride and Prejudice which is a far newer concept. It definitely can’t afford to drop any lower.

Love Island is doing extremely well.

Why provide an excuse for Love Island but not The Amazing Race?

 Obsessive fans will spin anything in their favour.

It’s the number one +7 day streaming/catch-up show in Australia by a long way. And they can target the ad inserts to the specific demo watching. It’s very lucrative for 9

Not an excuse. I am not saying The Amazing Race is doing badly. Just not great.

Sure but it’s at least underperforming (or if you want to be blunt about it, doing poorly) in the 16-39 demo on TV. While Nine could (and somehow successfully did last year) used Love Island’s performance on 9Now to spin/‘excuse’ it’s underwhelming performance on 9Go, it can’t do the same this year considering it’s airing on the main channel

I agree. It’s numbers are average and Ten would not want it to drop any further. Considering the competition on Seven is very weak as well it should do better. Still it’s probably doing better than whatever else Ten had on at this time of the year last year (I can’t even remember what they had).

Also far as the Survivor and Amazing Race discussion above - Survivor was always up against stronger competition on both networks and still rated better. Even in it’s first season I don’t think it every really dipped much lower than the low 500ks like what TAR got last night. I also can’t see TAR building it’s audience like Survivor did. Survivor has a bit of a cult following (much moreso than TAR) and has had far more success both here and overseas than The Amazing Race.

Actually it’s not, well not on the Tuesday anyway, Ambulance Australia rated higher this time last year. Although the Monday episode rated better than Blind Date (remember that flop). Although in the demos the amazing race has been better than ambulance. And I think 10 would be pleased both nights have been competitive in the demos. I do think they will give it another season.

One thing that is concerning for 9 is the demos for Love Island. One Born Every Minute, with only a few extra total viewers, was able to beat Love Island in the 16-39 demo in overnight figures. I know it gets a lot of online streams and timeshifting figures but its still not great in overnights to be losing that demo to a show that is skewed older.

One Born Every Minute was narrowly ahead of Love Island in all three demos plus under 50s.

Looking at the ratings reports form Nine an 10 for the episode from the previous Tuesday.

Nine said Love Island that rated 321,000 in overnights and gained extra viewers in time-shifting to 347,000 plus an additional VPM rating of 212,000 extra viewers.

10 said that One Born Every Minute more than doubled its overnight audience of 322,000 with catch up, 10Play and encores to a total of 705,000. Most of the increase came from encores.
