Attention was on the 7.30 spot on Seven last night with the debut of We Interrupt This Broadcast. Unfortunately for the network the numbers were disappointing with a metro audience of 379,000 which is down 44k on Idol in the same spot last week. In the key advertising demos the show ranked 11th which was below Nine’s late news bulletin.

Nine and Married At First Sight benefitted with the reality show recording a Tuesday high audience for this season and number one show for the night. While over on 10, Survivor was on par for a Tuesday though down 10k from the previous week.

The result saw Nine record its highest Tuesday share of 2023 while Seven had its worst result for a Tuesday this year, down three from last week. Nine of course won the key demos while 10 was again second ahead of Seven.

That also saw The Hundred with Andy Lee up 30k from last week while ABC’s Better Date Than Never improved (after getting a good review on Gogglebox). The debut of Queerstralia was 26th overall with NCIS 28th. The poor lead in saw The Good Doctor slip to 29th place, fourth in its timeslot.

Earlier Seven News was down while Nine improved including a win in Melbourne.

Sunrise was back on top in the morning.

Bad result for We Interrupt This Broadcast, coming a distant fourth in Sydney (where most of the show was filmed) in the 7.30pm timeslot. It rated best in Melbourne.

I didn’t have high hopes for We Interrupt This Broadcast knowing it was scheduled up against the second half of this season of Married at First Sight. There has to be a program so compelling that will wean viewers off MAFS. Unfortunately it is not the new comedy show.

Could be due to the Nine News/3AW viewer cash giveaway competition taking place this week.

Isnt 379 k about what the cheap seats gets? Guess cheap seats costs less to make…

Cheap seats isnt against programs usually rating close to a million at 9pmish. So its share would be much higher, and by the looks of it much stronger in the demos

From Nine:

  • Married at First Sight dominates the timeslot in all markets with People 25-54, GS + Child and Total People
  • Nine takes out the top 5 live streamed programs yesterday against all broadcasters, with MAFS leading the way at #1
  • MAFS takes out to top 2 programs streamed of catch up yesterday against all broadcasters
  • The Hundred wins the timeslot in all markets with all key demographics and Total People
  • The Hundred recorded a Live + VOD BVOD Audience of 54,000 (+59% on last season)
  • 9News ranks No. 1 program with Total People across the East Coast and in Sydney and Melbourne
  • ACA wins 7pm timeslot in all markets with GS + Child
  • Today wins breakfast slot across the East Coast and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Total People
  • 9Network and Channel 9 win Wednesday with all key demographics and Total

From 10:
Network 10 (10 + 10 Bold + 10 Peach + 10 Shake):

  • #2 network in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • 10: #2 channel in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • 10 Peach: #1 multi-channel in its key demo of 16 to 39s.

Australian Survivor:

  • #2 show in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • #2 in its timeslot.
  • Live stream up 34% compared with the same episode in 2022.
  • Series: Achieving biggest BVOD audience ever.
  • Series: Live stream up 22% compared with 2022 series average.

The Project 7pm:

  • #2 in its timeslot in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.

Cheap Seats often wins its timeslot if not in total people in the key demo groups. There’s really no comparison.

These ratings aren’t great but I was expecting it to flop even harder than this. I usually enjoy sketch comedy shows but watched 20 minutes and struggled to get into it. It feels like a post-9pm show. Not 7.30.

The difference is that Cheap Seats is on much later at night (often post 9pm) when there are usually less people watching TV. So it’s ratings for the timeslot are decent. Plus it would be beating most of the competition in it’s timeslot.

Serious early 2000s (first D. Gyngell era) vibes here :grimacing: Team red need a new David Leckie or Gyngell-esque saviour to come in and blow it up again!

ABC and 10’s main channel shares for perspective. Take away Seven News (and Adelaide and especially Perth) and oh man…

Surely those in Sydney (and it obviously wasn’t the demographics in any case) didn’t have memories of the 90s era sketch shows and thought “this must obviously be Melbourne-centric because all AUS comedy is - yawn” , and particularly how well Better Date Than Never went against it at 8pm compared to the other capitals (it doesn’t look like there was anything special about 7.30 that gave it a lead-in, even with an election on the way)…

though just looking at the numbers for once… I’m how much Sydney people in particular have disappeared from watching FTA entirely, especially in comparison to the similar population in Melbourne. (Admittedly, was rather bleak and cold down south yesterday, very much a staying-in day for most.)

Despite the small rise from last week, it is still a disappointing result for The Hundred With Andy Lee because not many shows get a lead in of 898,000

Aren’t a lot of the talent from Melbourne though? They also referenced the city a few times, such as suburb “Boronia”.

The show was fourth in all markets except Adelaide where it was second. It ranked lowest in Brisbane.

I doubt that was the intention of scheduling We Interrupt This Broadcast last night anyway. Those that watch reality tv, probably aren’t going to enjoy a show that mocks them. Seven would have been trying to pick up the few that had no intention of watching MAFS or Survivor. Their best hope against MAFS is to find a show that can retain the Home and Away audience the longest.

Nine won all markets last night. Nine’s share in Brisbane was approaching SOO proportions; well not quite but 23 points ahead of and more than double second-placed Seven. Nine was also well ahead in all demos with 10 an easy second.

If you can’t beat them, join them.

The only type of show that could beat MAFS would be another dating/relationships show that has even more scandals and drama than MAFS does. Not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s clearly what audiences are after.

If that’s total people, wonder what Nine’s main channel commercial share in 16-39s and 25-54s was in Brisbane last night then? Must’ve been up around 50-60% or so! That sort of territory is woeful for rivals.

Yes - total people share and yes to demo shares.

This show was not in the multichannel top 20 list. Could it be a misprint?

Without knowing how MSpy’s admins aggregate these tables out of the OzTam data, I do wonder whether the typo’d or at least “old name” of the channel beside it (as “K/C” and not “K/P”) might have seen it not picked up for the multi-channel lists, if whatever scripts they use are specifically looking for the channel names listed in the summary right at the top
