Data © OzTAM Pty Limited 2021. The Data may not be reproduced, published or communicated (electronically or in hard copy) in whole or in part, without the prior written consent of OzTAM. “Overnight” figures include “Live” (programs broadcast during the 2am-2am broadcast day) and “As Live” (programs recorded and then watched within the same broadcast day). “Consolidated” figures include Live, As Live and “Time Shift” (programs recorded and then watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Another reality show final last night, with Big Brother VIP concluding a very disappointing season. The final got no extra viewers and even rated lower than Monday’s episode with 311,000 metro viewers. Seven didn’t even bother with a Winner’s Announcement segment. Across the series it averaged 337,000 metro with 395,000 in 7-day consolidated (to date).

Overall, Nine won the night with its repeat of Travel Guides its best post 7.30 performer as The Hundred Christmas special just missed 400k but won its timeslot. Later, Love Island numbers were down to their lowest Tuesday of the season.

Home and Away was the top entertainment property last night closely followed by Dog House on 10 that was up this week to win its timeslot. The Cheap Seats season final that followed was steady week-on-week.

ABC saw its audience share up this week with News, 7.30 and Anh’s Brush With Fame all doing slightly better week-on-week. It was ABC’s best Tuesday since June. A new Bluey episode again topped the multichannel list.

Big Brother VIP finished on a low. Surely Seven will have to reconsider its decision to renew the celebrity format.

The Dog House won its timeslot in total people and demos, but the season finale of The Cheap Seats lost to The Hundred Christmas special.

Seven News won in Brisbane while Nine claimed Sydney and Melbourne.

Pretty weak ratings for Big Brother VIP finale. I wonder what damage this will do to the normal season next year? Clearly there is an overkill of celeb reality formats.

In addition to the celebrity aspect, I think the ratings were also a rejection of the Seven version of Big Brother - pre-recorded, concentration on challenges, contests, secret missions, structured activities and lack an normal contestant interaction.

Pre recorded big brother was a mistake for Seven Network

Go! Has massive night thanks to Bond. The Bond franchise has been an amazing pick up by Nine since getting it off Seven.

It’s been on the screens of Nine, Gem and Go! Over the last month has hasn’t lost public appeal.

9Go! usually gets higher ratings for movies and the James Bond franchise is no exception.

Weak is an understatement. It was a dog of a program. Watched 2 minutes and the fake crowd noise was enough to show how poorly it was produced

If they renew it then they have rocks in their head.

In the upfronts it said Big Brother VIP will go to air with another season in 2022.

Just because it was in upfronts doesn’t mean that they have to do it. Based on ratings there is no way that it will be coming back.

Hmm, audiences there didn’t like Nine’s new approach?

I’m not a fan of Seven’s iteration of Big Brother either. However, I don’t think you can come to that conclusion considering the ‘regular’ season earlier this year performed decently. If viewers really didn’t like the format, the ‘regular’ season would have pulled similar low numbers.

BB VIP’s ratings is a simple case of Seven getting the casting completely wrong to the point where it deterred people from watching.

It was the highest rated Seven bulletin in 2 months.

Arguably, the show could’ve performed even better if they incorporated more contestant interactions and ‘live’ elements. But agree that the casting (being a bunch of unknowns or some extremely polarising people) is the worst part of this show.
