It was noted in our office that the interest has been waning significantly in recent years.
A few years ago everyone was clambering for a good spot to watch the race on TV.
Now this year, only about 1/3 of the office was watching and they struggled to get enough people to run a sweep.

Also, previously all our office phones would stop ringing 5-10 minutes pre & post race, now incoming calls are only slightly reduced.

Then again… shows like the popular Bluey (and Sammy J; Thursdays before the ABC News) count towards the ratings, but they are 5 minutes long.

Anyway, yes, the numbers for the Melbourne Cup are on a downward trend, but so are many programs on FTA, even these “once off events”. Still good enough to be number one for the day.

Glad that Celebrity Big Brother… oops, i meant VIP, didnt do well, again.

I kinda expect it to be bumped off the main channel.

Sammy J will appear in the preliminary ratings but it is usually removed when the final ratings are posted.

For example Sammy J originally with 314,000 in the overnights is missing from the 7 day consolidated.

Bluey usually doesn’t make the new Total TV ratings. So if 10 wanted the cup to appear in the rankings it needed to be 10 minutes.

A program can be less than 10 minutes but the segment of programming can cover longer - like a few minutes either side.

Aaah, yes, the famous “preliminary” reports. I didnt realise that shows like Sammy J disappear from the 7 day consolidated figures/reports. But is good to know.

Makes sense now why the Melbourne Cup “Race segment” is 10 minutes mark and so it can be included in future reports.

To a degree yes. However, we shouldn’t overstate the audiences Sky Racing and Racing.com get - the overwhelming majority of people who watch those channels are racing enthusiasts.

That would fall under my reverence since that view is one of the reasons which could explain that

The cup race didn’t make the total tv list because it wasn’t 10 minutes long. It does however make the consolidated list meaning it is more than 5 minutes long (rather than just the race).

Also a great result for The Cheap Seats even outrating Love Island in TP and demos.
