Another tightly contested night with Seven leading despite the absence of BBL. 10 edged ahead of Nine, recording the network’s highest Tuesday audience share since July 2018. Big variation across the markets with Nine winning in Sydney and 10 ahead in Brisbane with Seven second in both markets while elsewhere Seven won ahead of 10 then Nine. In the key demos 10 Network was on top as 7Mate topped the multichannels.

I’m A Celebrity was an easy timeslot winner again well ahead of Border Patrol and Young Sheldon as ABC’s 7:30 posted a good number. The Project continued to be a good performer for 10 as Seven’s movie beat Nine’s later in the night.

Adelaide International rated pretty well for 9Gem.

Sweet Home Alabama getting over 300k for an umpteenth re-run of an 18 year old movie is a good result, did particularly well in Melbourne. Considering some FTA premieres even recently have failed to crack that!

Out of curiosity do you know where the 6:30pm portion of the project is placing in the demos?

Impressive that despite 10 and bold clashing with the same demographic post 8:30 Bold still managed a decent share. 10 are up over 3% on this time last year. Biggest improvement must be the 6:30 slot. Neighbours is down about 20k but The Project 6:30 is up over 100k.

With 7/9 main channels low viewer numbers has made the shares of the other channels higher, without any actual boost in numbers watching their shows. 10 Peach for example, one of it’s best shares over the last year.

What’s going on in Brisbane?
9News beats 7News with Sharyn back, and The Chase loses to Hot Seat.

That isn’t true though. The Project at 6:30 is up quite significantly.

Thanks for providing the information. Its being quite competitive in the demos at 6:30 which is a positive for 10.

It is, and Neighbours is down.
But that half hour slot aside, I’m talking about the post 7-7:30pm schedule on the other stations. No significant rise in numbers but the shares are up, because of the lower numbers watching on 7/9.

Although 8 out of 10 cats has been a sleeper hit over the summer. (even if it is heavily edited)

Massive pay TV ratings for first of three ODI matches between India and Australia.

But Neighbours is down by less than 20k and The Project up by over 100k.

Celebrity is up on this time last year. The Force is about the same. Tennis was on last year not on yet for 9. 10 are also up in the 8:30 slot on last year. Also shares are counted from 6:00-12 so the 6:30 slot is still relevant.

It begs the question.

Should the project and neighbours be scheduled against each other. The project and neighbours both target under 50s, 25-54 (neighbours probably skews younger)

But is 630 right for it? Against the project?

Would it be better stripped at 7.30, it might boost the project Amd neighbours. I know a soap at 739 feels weird, but shows like this are watched on demand so much - 730 is not so weird when you look at it that way

I thought The Project was aimed at 25-54 year olds and Neighbours 16-39. Personally, if 10 are committed to news at 6pm I would rather see Neighbours in the 6pm slot. 7:30 is still going for that same younger demographic so not sure if that would work either. The Projects increase at 6:30 hasn’t really come at the expense of Neighbours - it was only down roughly 20k compared to an over 100k increase.

I really don’t think they’re aiming Neighbours specifically at 16-39 any more. It rarely makes the top five in that demo but is almost always top 5 in 25-54 and 18-49.

I don’t think the shows are really aimed, it’s more the network

But the appeal for them both is under 50

I feel two first run Australian shows with under 50 appeal should not be programmed against each other, thats all

10Peach has 1 Aussie show. And they put it up against one of 10’s biggest Aussie shows

Perhaps its an assumption because 10 has said peach targets the 16-39 demographic and Neighbours is a peach staple.

Completely correct with that statement. 10 do it a lot. NCIS was against CSI on Tuesday night. Bull was against NCIS LA. And I do and have always agreed that Neighbours shouldn’t be against the Project. I just don’t think 7:30 is the answer. At the moment the 6pm slot is free and there isn’t a great flow on peach with Friends - Neighbours - Friends. It would be better if it were Neighbours - Friends - Friends. And this would be perfect considering 10 are going for a much older demographic at 6pm with news. However, I guess before 10 decide to make such a change they need to fully commit to 6pm news.

Data © OzTAM Pty Limited 2020. The Data may not be reproduced, published or communicated (electronically or in hard copy) in whole or in part, without the prior written consent of OzTAM. “Overnight” figures include “Live” (programs broadcast during the 2am-2am broadcast day) and “As Live” (programs recorded and then watched within the same broadcast day). “Consolidated” figures include Live, As Live and “Time Shift” (programs recorded and then watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Timeshifting increases for I’m a Celebrity and the season return of NCIS helped 10 to win in primary shares after consolidated, and second in network shares (only 1% behind Seven).
