Data © OzTAM Pty Limited 2021. The Data may not be reproduced, published or communicated (electronically or in hard copy) in whole or in part, without the prior written consent of OzTAM. “Overnight” figures include “Live” (programs broadcast during the 2am-2am broadcast day) and “As Live” (programs recorded and then watched within the same broadcast day). “Consolidated” figures include Live, As Live and “Time Shift” (programs recorded and then watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Seven won its first Tuesday in four weeks as the penultimate episode of this series of SAS Australia climbed to a Tuesday-high 631,000. That, plus news dominance, was enough to lift Seven’s share by 3 points from the previous week. Seven won all markets except Brisbane that was won by Nine.

However, Nine won the key 25-54 demo while 10 won 16-39 helped by an impressive share for 10 Bold in that age group.

The Block was still a 7.30 winner despite dipping 50k week-on-week with Love Island that followed just making the top 20 on 279,000 down 30k from Monday’s launch. The result compares to 2019’s second episode rating of 355,000.

So far episode one of Love Island has picked up 109,000 extra national viewers in VPM BVOD viewing with 49% of that audience females 18-39.

For 10, The Dog House was off to a slow start missing the top 10 just below 500k. However, Cheap Seats that followed managed to win the post reality contest despite the low lead. The Socceroos game on 10 Bold topped the multichannel list and helped 10 Bold to its best Tuesday share of the survey and for 10 to equal its share from last Tuesday.

Overall, numbers were generally low. It was the first Tuesday since May with nothing over one million with Nine News below 900k. In the afternoon both The Chase and Hot Seat had their lowest Tuesdays since February.

10Bold’s first primetime soccer telecast (a World Cup qualifier no less) rated quite well.

Modest debut for The Dog House Australia but The Cheap Seats had its first timeslot victory.

Expected Dog House to launch lower, so close to 500k ain’t too bad for something made in-house. Surprising that Cheap Seats retained much of its lead-in and weekly audience, good win for them.

I expected the football to do a little better, but 10 obviously made the right call by not having it on the main channel as fans were calling out for and should have satisfied a lot of the audience by changing Bold to HD in metro areas.

What Nine News needs to consider doing if they’re to remain #1 in Sydney next year…

*Fix those far too regular technical problems.
*Consider replacing Amber Sherlock with a qualified meteorologist.
*Once conditions permit, get Peter Overton doing a week of OBs and/or Special Reports from the Western suburbs. How the recovery from lockdown is going, good news from areas of Sydney which generally only make it into the bulletin when something bad has happened - that type of thing.

Meanwhile, A Current Affair would probably benefit from slightly more upmarket content with ABC News often within striking distance of (and as the case was last night, actually outrating) ACA in Sydney & Melbourne.
