Seven won its third straight Tuesday, leading in all markets while Nine posted a small increase from the previous week. 10 won the key advertising demo groups.

MasterChef topped the night in entertainment shows with one million viewers (time adjusted) leading its timeslot from 7.30 on ABC and Seven’s Tiger King one off special that was just under 500,000. Nine’s Hamish and Andy Perfect Holiday repeat again missed the top 20 with 337,000.

Meanwhile, 10’s How To Stay Married increased its audience from the season premiere to win its timeslot easily accounting for First Dates Australia (431,000 and 252,000) on Seven and Nine’s movie 50 First Dates (187,000).

Not that great. A perfect example of networks overestimating the popularity of niche streaming shows. Would have been better off running House Rules here and using the special as filler later at night.

Nine’s share went up by 0.9% from Tuesday, while ABC fell by the same amount.
For the second week a MasterChef episode reached 999,000. Will it be marked up to one million after time adjustments?
Seven’s Tiger King special did OK.

Even with an extra channel 9 is behind seven’s multi channels. I am not sure the extra channel is the way to go.

Meanwhile 10bold on 4.3% continues to be the biggest multi.

Pop it at 8:45/9 sure, but 7:30? Assuming everyone has actually watched the “Tiger King” show yet.

It’s still worth the extra channel. 9GO! and 9Gem rates best on Fridays and Saturdays with their repeat movies, while 7mate rates best on Tuesday nights with its line-up of Outback Truckers (new episodes) and Highway Patrol repeats. Plus, if the network shares of Seven and Nine are very close, it’s often the extra multichannel that decides the winner.

It is if you can have a channel that offers something to a different market. But it seems Rush doesn’t add anything GO! or Life wasn’t already offering and I just wonder whether they could have added that content to one of the existing channels or focused on the online platform.

Mastermind has been doing quite well in the past 3-4 weeks with audience up on last year.

That Tiger King ‘Special’ got what it deserved. Very random filler and obviously an attempt to monetise on the success of the Netflix series. Having said that, wouldn’t mind if they invest in more news specials (with worthy news stories) in the future. They’ve managed to do well on their last couple of news specials (Ben Cousins, Ruby Princess, despite how badly that one was done) so they could consider producing some more specials (that are better in terms of quality) in the future.

Looks like viewers won’t cling onto Hamish and Andy unless it’s a brand new show. A big contrast compared to how it was performing at the end of last year. Masterchef looks to be staying around the 900K mark which is far better than what it was faring last year. Props to 10 for reinvigorating the show and delivering in all aspects.

Mastermind is much better this year. It’s taking itself much less seriously and feels much lighter and more enjoyable!
