Tuesday night was a tale of two reality franchise finals with the MasterChef and Big Brother seasons drawing to a close.

Most eyes were on MasterChef last night with a season high 755,000 for the grand final and 875k for the Winner Announced segment topping the entertainment offerings for the night. That compared to the 2021 season that had 824,000 and 931,000 watching. The season averaged 515,000 in overnight linear viewing.

The result contrasted with the Big Brother final could only manage 363,000 – notable for not having a Winner Announced segment as well as being coded as a regular episode. The number was lower than that received by several episodes earlier in the series and compared to the 2021 season that had 680,000 watching the final and 790,000 for the winner’s announcement. The show averaged 343,000 in overnight numbers.

Meanwhile over on Nine, the special Ninja Warrior post season episode did well to get 448,000.

Nine won the night from second placed 10 that had its biggest prime time audience since July 2021.

The Cheap Seats was again a timeslot winner up slightly from the previous week while SBS’s Who Do You Think You Are? was back in the top 20 up 130k on the previous week.

The soccer could only managed to rank 145th for the night.

Sunrise managed a 8k win over Today at breakfast .

10 was this close to win the night thanks to MasterChef finale, The Cheap Seats (which held its audience despite the 9.30pm start), and live soccer.

Very poor result for Big Brother finale.

It was a very lacklustre finale. The excitement of the finale used to be the winner finally leaving the house and returning to the outside world. When they have already been outside for 6 months since the series was filmed what is the point? Also Sonia saying it was the “best Big Brother Season ever” every five minutes was quite irritating given she, the crew and all of the housemates would be aware it was the lowest rating season ever.

Just put it down already. MKR and House Rules was rested with higher figures so surely this can’t return? Get some new international formats that we haven’t seen before please Seven!

Masterchef climbing back after a lacklustre start and good figures for the finale.

It did well in BVOD and Total People +7 days though and was the most streamed show on 7+.
If it is still profitable to produce they will run another season, potentially the over the air broadcasts could be bumped to 8.30/9pm though.

Tim from this year’s BB has confirmed there is another season on the way and that he will be involved in some capacity again. Likely that old BB contestants will be part of the show again. 7 are also recruiting for a Big Brother Arts Department Director at the moment for August-December.

I agree. However, very different tv landscape even to just 3-4 years ago. Even 2 years ago!! Same rules dont apply.

The yo-yo-ing continues. Not much between all the programs really. Which show will find a real point of difference or have a significant refresh to pull away from the pack?

There’s some sort of life and potential still there… but what is the answer? Lots of suggestions on this site which 7 should consider. Do the same again, and they’ll get the same result.
I feel that the celebrity version is what killed off interest…

Surely they can cut their losses and abort plans based off ratings. Otherwise the only way I see Big Brother is if they kind of do what Nine do with Love Island. In a later night slot that would probably pull similar numbers to what this season did in Primetime.

If Big Brother does return, it will do so probably because of contractual obligations. As the ratings for this season and for the final last night were not the best out there.

MasterChef Final did great numbers.

If it’s making money nationally they may stick it at 8:30.
Last week it was 30k behind MasterChef in 25-54 in demos and ahead of Ninja Warrior (national consolidated). Earlier in the season it was ahead of the competition in catch up.

The 3 year contractual obligation expired this year.

Though Love Island is absolutely huge on catch up and BVOD and I doubt Big Brother can replicate that with the current format. It needs to be live and genuine, even at 8.30 or later with another reality lead-in.
