Triple M Network

That’s awkward.

It’s a name that was given to me this morning by SCA workers - so if it’s incorrect, I apologise profusely to Dangerous!

That’s show biz - got the name from two sources who have now been told they’re in the naughty corner. I’ve reached out to Dave.

Up there with statements were ready etc. back when ARN was going SCA and it was a “sure thing”.

These are people’s livelihoods and reputations, something this forum seems to wilfully forget.

I have to say I’m quite shocked and saddened to hear that the Nightshift has been axed. I always played the shows podcast in the cab and in recent weeks, I had the chance to listen to it live while Mechie Jnr was up in the wee small hours. I just hope Luke ends up doing something similar in the future. He knew how to connect with the overnight audiences.

Interesting metric, the show was more than profitable. Luke and a producer across all SCA markets, huge client base. The show has been a cash cow with excellent numbers in demos. All with zero marketing and no established history of talk at that time. Paid for itself from the first year.

It will be replays of earlier program content as done by SCA, Nova & ARN. Music costs money, Bona’s show has been a profit centre and saved money.

It’ll be Marty Sheargold replays from 3am then breakky replays from 5.
It’s a real shame.

Wonder if Super Radio or even SEN would pick up the show. SEN has a truck load of stations around the country.

More likely SRN.

SEN might have live sport, or, more likely, international horse racing people can take a punt on and Hutchy can take a cut of it.

Listening to the start of the Nightshift last night, and Luke said the original plan at Triple M was for him to do overnights for a bit and then move to mornings across the Triple M network, replacing Ray Hadley on the regional stations that took his show, but that never eventuated.

It’s a shame to lose that show Luke’s audience. From the SCA desks in Sydney and Melbourne it might look hard to justify 200-300K for a show while most people are sleeping, but it had a very strong audience from shift workers, particularly in regional areas. Ordinary people working essential jobs which are too easily forgotten about by someone working 9-5 in the city.

Yeah i occasionally listened on my way home from work. (I finish at midnight) i tend to station surf. Most stations are just on autopilot during the overnight hours these days

This needs to be a teachable moment. You don’t need to be the first to “break” the news when it involves someone’s livelihood. I can’t stop thinking of how poor Dange felt reading all this speculation

100%. Dismissing this as “showbiz” and placing the “sources” in the naughty corner is a real cop out of the culpability of Mark here.

There is 0% value in beating everyone to the punch on these ones and I struggle to see ANY value in spreading such hurtful speculation.

Genuine reflection to be had.

Oh wow. What a shame for a legend in the industry. Luke Bona got screwed by SCA.

Mind you, he was an outlier to the Triple M Network.

He really needs to switch back to daytime AM talkback.

I think that’s part of why Bona did so well. I don’t want everyone to sound exactly the same with exactly the same opinions, that’s boring af.

I hope he does well with his podcast, but podcasts will never have the magic of live radio.

I think there needs to be some reflection in the mirror for some too.

Irrespective of whether someone made a mistake or not, they too are human and after admitting their mistake probably don’t need people to spend time beating up their character either.

I’ll move back onto topic now…

Ultimately what is a sad day in the industry many on social media have also remained professional in their messages about this not being personal… It’s just business.

How was two comments doing that? The number of people I know who’ve read rumours about their own careers in this thread is abominable. This needs some real consideration
