For Canberra it’s Parliament House, Australian War Memorial, National Museum, National Gallery of Australia (a new exhibition on Monet just began on June 1). Plus a ride on the new light rail, which can be useful if your hotel is outside the CBD but near a tram stop on Northbourne Avenue.
The mint was shit in Canberra. Wouldn’t recommend it.
Highly recommended Day trips at Darling Harbour which includes Harbour Side Shopping Centre, Sydney Chinese Gardens (absolutely beautiful), China Town, Paddy’s Markets then another day trip catching the Ferry from Circular Quay to Sydney Taronga Zoo, even if you don’t like animals it has amazing scenery and a ride on the cable car is always a blast!
Hope you enjoy it ![]()
In Canberra, the National Film And Sound Archive is recommended for media buffs.
Questacon and Parliament House also good.
In Sydney, Opera House, and Centrepoint Tower for commanding views if you like that type of thing.
For a genuine Sydney experience, make sure to drive during peak hour for the “pleasure” of being stuck in traffic. Or if you prefer public transport, a Sydney Trains journey where you have to change trains at least once to get to your destination!
Be sure to use the toll roads. It’ll cost you the price of a house deposit in Canberra and you probably won’t get to your destination any quicker than if you’d used a rat run, but Gladys thinks you should still be grateful she personally built all of this infrastructure that fails to meet the needs of the population.
Don’t forget to do this during peak hour to get the full sardine in a tin can effect. It’ll probably smell like that in the carriages, too. Some Sydneysiders aren’t big on using hygiene products. If you fall over during the rush to change trains at Central station stay down, get into the foetal position and wait for the crowd to pass. No one will care if you’re injured or in need of help. They’re all in too much of a rush.
Yeah, forget about going to the Sydney Opera House or Bondi Beach. Pennant Hills Road is the must see thing to do for any first-time visitor to Sydney.
Although I wasn’t being entirely serious with the above road/public transport recommendtations for a first time visit to Sydney, at the same time I’m not going to completely sugar coat my opinions and say that everything about the city is as lovely as the tourism propagand…I mean, advertising from the state government would have you believe!
If it actually turns up at all, let alone one that is actually on time.
What the hell?
Someone missed the sarcasm
My vote is for Victoria Road
Must be a North Shore thing. ![]()
It was sarcasm. Do you both think that someone would seriously suggest to a tourist to visit Pennant Hills Road over the Sydney Opera House or Bondi Beach? ![]()
I understood it. But why Pennant Hills Road? Just so random.
It’s one of the busiest roads in Sydney and regarded as one of the worst roads in the state:
Second worst. Not good enough. Now if you had said Pacific Highway that would have been piss funny. ![]()
Yeah, I’d believe that Pennant Hills Road is the worst after the Pacific Highway. They’ve gotta have bad traffic on the former so that people won’t want to leave Sydney for trips North on the latter!
While we’re still on reasons not to visit Sydney, the latest instalment of The Weekly’s anti-travel segment “Go Away” mentioned some:
Not bad, although they missed our “wonderful” train network and Western suburbs!
I did that on my last trip to Sydney and I really suffered from rage ! ![]()
![]()
For some strange reason it doesn’t surprise me that you would have rage. ![]()
lol!
Well everyone hear can probably agree with you on that.
