If I have the time I take the bus from Toombul that stops at the DFO and take the free shuttle from there (but I do have to allow time, they only run once every half hour or so). These days I just take an Uber from the city if staying there (not that much more costly).
The current ramp to the front of departures at Melbourne Airport T1 T2 and T3 will close at 9pm tonight, with temporary diversions until the new pick up and drop off area opens at around 4am tomorrow.
EDIT: according to ABC Radio Melbourne breakfast show today, the last passenger to use the old ramp before the closure received a $1970 travel voucher, representing the year the airport opened.
Looks like a great set up.. only downside is that it looks like passengers will have a longer walk to/from the terminals…
Hopefully it will make getting in/out of the precinct quicker… as whenever I’ve taken the SkyBus to/from MEL, it’s usually slow going for first/last few kilometres.
I’ll have to check it out when I next visit. Though funnily enough, I always thought the old ramps (that separated arrival pickups from departure dropoffs) work really well at MEL, certainly when compared to the shitshow that is the combined pickup/dropoff zone at BNE.
I hope you can still catch the SkyBus from the same location
