This would affect 7’s schedule for July 2021

I imagine they would be quite happy to have it in July 2021. All networks will need big events to rebuild a schedule around next year after so many production delays with shows this year.

In the present circumstances and based on the information provided by the WHO today, the IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.

Seven now has no excuses for 2021 to rebuild their schedule

You don’t know how long this crisis will go on and when shows can go back into production.

I think it is a good decision to postpone the Tokyo Games to 2021, as it gives athletes some certainty.

Commenting on today’s decision, Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said: “While we are just as disappointed as anyone with the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the health and safety of the athletes, officials and spectators is paramount, which is why we absolutely support the decision taken by the IOC.”

SWM is committed to working with our partners and supporters of the Games in light of this decision. Kurt Burnette, SWM Chief Revenue Officer, said: “We’re disappointed to no longer beable to offer our partners the incredible platform that Tokyo 2020 could provide.

Given the olympics have been postponed and it is also the 20th anniversary of the Sydney olympics think it would be an idea of seven were to show the opening and closing ceremonies(Sydney games) in full and highlights of the Sydney games to fill the gap?

Good idea. Full Opening and Closing Ceremonies uploaded on 7Plus plus the best from each day of the Games and Roy and HG.

Even better if they have high enough quality recordings to remaster into HD

Don’t think Seven will do that. They’ll just fill the time with normal programming.

I believe there is an Olympics channel on 7Plus that will show Sydney 2000 highlights.

Nope, as far as I thought it was produced in 4:3 standard definition. It would look horrible now.

Everything was produced in 4:3 in 2000

If they were to do something like that, they could air the program in its original 4:3 aspect ratio and have the outside background as the footage zoomed in with a blur effect, some Networks tend to go down that route for older footage.

A Spring (Autumn) Olympics could be a launchpad for 7’s shows next year.

House Rules could launch “after the Olympics” with all other shows during the year promoted.

That actually might work well for all of our networks if they don’t really start with their proper schedules until a little later in the year, given the delays that will happen this year.
