Sam Armytage departs Today as beleaguered show struggles to find hosts
Sam Armytage’s time is up filling in on Today as the beleaguered breakfast TV show continues in its lacklustre attempts to find replacements for Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.
The former Sunrise presenter has sat alongside Stefanovic’s fill-in Tom Steinfort for the past few weeks with Armytage hosting her final shift today.
Armytage is now understood to be heading off on a break to celebrate her 50th birthday.
Sylvia Jeffreys will step back into the hosting chair alongside Steinfort, who Confidential hears has told colleagues he all but has the job in the bag following Stefanovic’s controversial departure earlier this year.

They obviously wanted her as a fill-in host and they used her as much as she wanted to do it. She hasn’t got a long-term contract so she’s appearing when she wants to do it.

Wild that they looked at it and thought 2 weeks of Sylvia, 2 weeks of Sam, 2 weeks of Sylvia, back to Sam, back to Sylvia was a good idea though. If Sam wasn’t willing to commit then they should have stuck with Sylvia right through.

I agree that they should have had a long term fill-in host who takes over whenever Sarah is not there. Sylvia would have been perfect.
I guess they are chasing headlines by using Sam rather than thinking of long term stability.

Why does it matter whether it was a “full week” or not? Maybe it was Sylvia who couldn’t do the full week for whatever reason. They need to be flexible enough for their hosts when they need to make changes that suit whatever is happening in their private lives.
The real issue is that Nine need to have a steady stable of presenters to fill-in, like Seven do. Right now that’s not happening and they keep losing people which just makes things worse.

Or they can use Felix, he’s filled in enough now and with the NBL on 9 over summer, he’d be a good fill in.
