Today still runs local news in Perth with Lara Vella but to no or little effect - the show’s worst market.

Why is Perth so weak for Today? is it just Channel 7 being so dominant over there? I would say its a weak market for breakfast TV because it is so focussed on the east coast.
Perhaps Nine could do say 2 hours that airs across the entire nation, then one hour produced for say East Coast and one for West Coast.
I know this probably belongs more in mock schedules, but it could be something like
East Coast (Central half hour earlier)
5am Nine News Today
6am Today Early^
7am Today
Western Australia
5am Today
7am Nine News Today
8am Today in Perth^

With respect, that’s going to barely do anything. There’s virtually no audience wanting to watch back a 3 and a half hour show. Surprised it’s not automated to upload it at least, but given there seems to be some manpower required, I’d suggest the investment would not be worth it. Better to focus on slicing and dicing the content from the show.

Then why does Sunrise upload their full show on 7plus.
NBC & ABC uploaded their full episodes on YouTube, Disney+ and Peacock.

Because they have an automated system? Because it suits their workflows?
I’m not saying they shouldn’t upload it, but it’s not going to convert masses of viewers. It has a short cultural cache - better to do a 20 minute catch up version if you’re going to do anything or just the individual segments which they do anyway.

If people aren’t tuning in live on the app, why would they expect viewers to tune in on social media

Would be great but it takes money and effort.
Currently they just rehash stories from the day before or the previous nights main bulletin, or get their info off the internet. There’s not much real “reporting”.

The point about NRL v AFL probably a null pointer given PVL will want the NRL pushed at every opportunity, whilst even Sydney and Brisbane, although the following is nowhere near NRL, it still has fans. Do you really want to alienate your audience.
I think Today should be cut back to 3 hours, the first hour on the east coast is the last hour on the west coast aired just repackaged and aired at 8am and the 5am news is replaced by a 7am bulletin (6am daylight savings time). Today (Live) on west coast could aur live all year round
