Another win for Nine thanks to NRL and cricket, winning the NRL markets. Seven won the AFL cities with 7Mate Perth achieving the highest share of any channel in any market.

While sport dominated, in Brisbane The Bachelor outrated all sport while in Adelaide it was Gogglebox.

NRL ranked 5th in Sydney and cricket 15th with AFL 1st in Melbourne and cricket 2nd, cricket ranked 8th in Brisbane with NRL 11th. In Adelaide AFL ranked 4th with cricket 6th and in Perth AFl was 1stwith cricket 2nd.

Bachelor and Gogglebox were both season lows but managed to win the key demos against stiff competition.

When’s the last time an AFL final didn’t win that network the night?

Although a massive 202k on 7mate in Perth for their home team destroying a disgraceful Essendon.

Is it fair to say cricket is still Australia’s favourite sport?

Remember the AFL was simulcast on Fox Footy.

True that is something I do forget.

True and it again shows to all networks, if you want total viewers don’t have simulcast. Spend a bit more and get exclusive rights, means more money back via advert rev.

It’ll be quite interesting to see whether the ratings for The Bachelor/Gogglebox increase over the next week or two, as viewers of Thursday Night Football (last night’s game was the Thursday finale until next March for both codes, right?) look for something new to watch.

Cricket (and tennis) unites Australia while football divides it.

That is not going to happen any time soon with AFL and NRL, and hasn’t since 2012 and 2017 (?) respectively.

This would be the first time an Ashes test match has clashed with an AFL final. Tests aren’t usually played in September in England, but were pushed back due to Cricket World Cup.

Week to date

Seven 27.0%
Nine 31.7%

After 5 days, 10 lead Seven in the key demos, though obviously not for much longer.

Seven and Nine News both recorded year-low ratings for news in Perth last night. Nine News currently leading in the three east coast markets.

Both FTA and Pay TV ratings for the AFL final were well down on last year when Richmond faced Hawthorn.

7mate YTD share in Perth must be knocking on the door of Nine and/or 10’s main channel, maybe even beating ABC’s? Not even joking!
