Thursday 28 May 2020

Nine have been using the same V/O guys since 2006 and 2007 respectively, only a few years less than Seven’s male and female. One of 10’s has been going since 2008. So…

Second time this week it’s just been pipped from getting to number 1

Not really surprised that the return of Thursday Night NRL was the shot in the arm Nine needed, Ten remained competitive with MasterChef while Seven seemed to collapse and burn after 7pm - the return of AFL can’t come soon enough for them!

Yep, Home & Away needed to move to 7TWO at least three years ago IMO!

Of course the graphics/On-Air Presentation has changed two times since then, but I definitely agree that Seven’s promotional style has become very stale in recent years. They’d probably benefit from poaching staff from Nine or Ten.

While you’ll no doubt be quick to point out how he did Ten VOs for a decade and various radio stations before that, Paul Pittioni (probably gradually being positioned as Nine’s main voiceover guy, as Steve Britten starts to reduce his workload - understandable after 30 years or so) has only really done stuff for Nine since 2015-16?

Indeed.

And it feels like Nine’s promos are from 2010, yet they are number one. The promos didn’t get them there.

Well, the AFL starts on June 11 so they will be. Not sure what Sydney/Brisbane will air at 7.30, probably factuals like Border Security or some filler content like Cats Who Make You LOL…

I mean, Deeksy is still doing the network V/O stuff at Seven and he’s been there since the 70s… So it seems new voices aren’t exactly on bosses’ agendas.

Still find it odd when Nine (and SBS) dont combine numbers for tjeir shows - like nine with the NRL last night (on 9 and gem).

MasterChef did well. So is Neighbours. So close on being 1 on the multis.

Good to see ABC split Spicks and Specks into 2 - for its two shows

That’s all well and good for this year (seeing that Thursday Night Football will be on most weeks) but what about the future? Triple Home and Away and movies just isn’t going to make the cut and they’re not in a position to be complacent about their Thursday night schedule like before because the rest of their schedule (apart from news/AFL) is tanking.

The national audience of 355,000 for last night’s clash between the Broncos and the Eels was the biggest pay TV audience for an NRL regular season match since the Storm took on the Sharks in Round 17 last year. It had a live VPM rating of 27,000 on Foxtel Now/Go, the highest NRL VPM rating of all time.
According to the NRL website, the Broncos-Eels game was also the highest-rating game for a simulcast in Fox Sports history.

I would daresay those who go to the games are dedicated NRL fans and to be across the game they’d have Foxtel contributing to the high numbers as well as those looking for something to watch.
