ABC got a slight boost from the second part of the Al Jazeera investigation. Gogglebox and Show Me The Movie both improved for 10 but their audience share didn’t. NRL up from last week, big drop from AFL.

Why does Nine sometimes combine Gem’s ratings to the NRL, and other weeks they don’t (like last night)? And Seven combine their ratings with 7Mate for the AFL?

I’m can’t recall anytime that has happened.

It’s up to the network. The only networks that combine main channel and multichannel ratings for the same program are Seven, 10 and SBS. Don’t know why the other 2 don’t participate; Nine have certainly wanted people to know combined ratings in the past when they used to show SOO on 9Gem in Perth.

I think Ten should renew Show Me the Movie even though the ratings may be a bit disappointing. It is fun and a good combo with Gogglebox on Thursday nights.

Both Richmond and Collingwood have large fanbases in Melbourne, so I was surprised with the drop in TV audience. The crowd at the MCG was 70,699, lower than last week’s season opener.

Seems odd that Nine (and ABC) don’t combine the ratings all that often.

Speaking of which, I think I may have saw ratings on another site that may above combined the NRL ratings at one stage. Oops

Even though three quarters were thrilling, Collingwood ran away in the last quarter. Also last week was the season opener, more anticipation after the off season.

That’s still an incredibly high live crowd. Look at NRL where they struggle to attract 20,000 to a game.

Great figures for 7’s coverage of AFL on both the main channel, 7mate and Foxtel. I wonder if they sell the fact that it receives anothe 230k on Foxtel to advertisers. Its basically a simulcast of 7 included commercials.

ahh… still banging on about crowd figures like its something…

you know people can watch the game on TV or at the pub - and its a much better experience?
people don’t have to go to the game if they don’t want to…

excluding places like ANZ, you know the general stadium size is around 28,000 ?

so getting 20,000 at a ground that holds 28,000 isn’t bad at all - thats 71% capacity.

but melbourne people ignore stadium sizes, and quote the crowd figure trying to make it look bad, when its actually decent.

MCG can hold 90,000k - but didn’t get that last night - ohh look that must be shit…

plus, considering Sydney is the most expensive place to have a property in Australia, people are busy spending their money on their morgage / rent - and don’t have the disposable income to spend it on things like going to a football game.

but hey melbourne - they have nothing better to do so they go to the AFL…

Really? Sydney is not that much more expensive and there is a lot more things to do in Melbourne than Sydney I would say. And crowd sizes do matter. If you keep having small crowd sizes it has a direct impact on the revenue and therefore the profit the AFL makes.

Without Brisbane, ACA getting really bad figures. Goes to show how important Queensland is to the dominance of ACA in the timeslot.

…and people still wonder why the NRL talks about wanting to relocate a few of the Sydney teams?!

Anyway, there’s a number of other factors why the AFL rates considerably higher in Melbourne than the NRL does in Sydney. Pay TV penetration (surely a good 50-100k of the Fox League ratings are from Sydney?), the fact that Sydneysiders watch less TV generally and perhaps, because Sydneysiders are also a bit less interested in sport than Melbournians are.

Mate, I lived my life following NRL and grew up in Sydney/Wollongong - I’ve been in Melbourne for 6 years… so I don’t need the lecture

Reality is, my NSW brothers do not turn out to live events like Melbournites do… maybe the stupidly high housing prices do have something to do with it… what a sad life that is though spending every cent on your mortgage and not being able to consume yourself in the atmosphere of live sports and events.

Let’s not argue about football crowds. This is a ratings discussion. There are plenty of activities to occupy the good folk of Melbourne & Sydney, but let’s stick to our knitting ie TV ratings.

That’s a good idea :slightly_smiling_face:
My original post mentioned Show Me the Movie. Does anyone think the show has a future?

They need content in some parts of the year, so it could come back next year for another 8 weeks.

It’s not expensive to make, so I’d expect it to be back. It’s making the Top 20, which is not that common for Ten. And, what else do they have?

Show me the Movie just isn’t good enough for a 7.30 timeslot. It might do better at 8.30 Thursday following I’m a Celebrity before Gogglebox returns.

For me it’s not a great show as it feels very forced and fake. I’d rather they do a revival of Spicks and Specks before anything else.

Knowing 10 they will probably keep it on. I just don’t think 10 should get in the habit of renewing show that post figures less than 300k most weeks. I would rather see them use that money on something else.
