Another good result for the Paralympic coverage and 7Mate’s share saw Seven a 9-point winner in overnight shares. That saw Nine’s share slip by +3 and ABC by +2 points. SBS slipped slightly while 10 was up slightly on last Thursday.

Seven won all markets. Seven was over 30% in four markets with Sydney just falling short and Nine just 0.5 points behind. In Perth 10 outrated Nine. Seven also won the key demos, Nine was second in 25-54 while 10 ranked second in 16-39.

Home and Away was the top entertainment title for the night while The Bachelor was the top performer in key demos.

The Paralympics again ranked 20th for the night. NRL was down 50k from last week but it still gave Nine main channel victories in Sydney and Brisbane. On ABC, Foreign Correspondent lost 90k.

Fluctuating fortunes in Brisbane news with Nine on top yesterday will make a close result for the week.

That Q&A result is a bit of a shocker. Are people over Covid discussions?

I reckon one of the networks in Aus will be closely watching what’s happening with the afternoon ratings of Tipping Point and eyeing off the local rights if they haven’t already.

I’m sure Nine would have that option locked in already. I can remember suggesting this show a few years back when I happened to catch it on a UK trip and then it started screening here a few months later.

It’s more that the timeslot doesn’t suit.
Monday 9.30 after Four Corners and Media Watch was perfect.
On Thursday nights it’s up against live sport, and news-heavy programming isn’t what the audience is looking for leading up to the weekend.

I like the quiz element but the actual tipping point machine is so mindless. It’s psychologically addictive in the way poker machines are. Also the UK host is overly polite which I find annoying. Who would host an Australian version? Eddie McGuire? Grant Denyer?

Perhaps, but the changes to the night it airs on + the host haven’t helped either. Either way you’d have to say it’s reasonably likely we won’t see Q&A back on ABC-TV in 2022.

As for Tipping Point…yeah, you can bet that Nine have already got options for rights to a local version. Probably not a case of if, but when.
