I would have thought the Australian Open would be cracking a million at this end of the competition. The Cricket Test did better than the Big Bash but would have thought it would have done better than that too.

I’m A Celeb down too.

The test/BBL combo pushed Seven’s main channel share closer to Nine’s but Nine still won the night.

Nine would be happy, on a night where so much was on, including a day nighter (CA will be hoping the Fox numbers are massive), the first Aus Open semi final was also one-sided and under 2 hours (around 9:40 finish) though still enjoyable and Australia loves Nadal.

I’m not surprised as it has been a very one-sided competition especially in the mens draw. Usually at this point there are bigger battles but Djokovic and Nadal are just cruising to the end. I think the final will be huge assuming the two of them are there though.

I turned the Tennis off early when it was obvious who would win. The women’s match earlier was much better. S3 of the cricket did ok on 7.

While the first bit of this true and probably the last bit too, overall it has actually been a great tournament, with so many thrilling 5 set matches in the first week and the best in years for the Aussies, including one making a final!

Nine won the night by a big margin in Melbourne and narrowly in Sydney. Seven won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth where the cricket outrated the tennis.

On Ten, I’m A Celebrity rated the same as the previous Thursday despite the competition and The Connors ranked 22nd and 29th. I’m A Celebrity continues to do well in Brisbane where it beat cricket and tennis.

Maybe but regarding the matches that we’ve got in primetime in the final week they have mostly been lacklustre. Barty got thrashed on Tuesday. Djokovic’s match didn’t even play out past the second set due to an injury and last night Nadal slaughtered Tsitipoas. The match last night probably began with a much bigger audience that slowly sunk off. I’m not sure if the AO final will benefit or be at be at a disadvantage by being on the eve of a public holiday but I think Djokovic vs Nadal is the game people are really hanging out for.

They were last year too. I guess it goes to show how bloody good Nadal, Joker are

And how much the sport will miss them when they’re gone. The generation below them has been lacklustre (Nishikori etc) and the next wave below that is yet unproven (Zverev, Tsitsipas). Adding to that they don’t have the same fan following (yet, perhaps) of Fed, Nadal and to a slightly lesser extent Joker.

If they all retire at once, the sport could lose a bit of interest.

Interesting that the combined cricket numbers beat tennis, but there was only one singles match in that session so hard to read much into it.

The one sided matches are hindering the Aus Open’s ratings.

I wonder what happened to Nine News Sydney last night? 61k behind Seven during the 6pm half hour and 65k at 6.30pm!

Yes there were major technical problems with Nine’s Southern NSW/ACT bulletins which resulted in the Sydney edition airing there, but those didn’t rate a mention during the bulletin.

Cricket test was on Seven! While the second women’s semi final late arvo must’ve boded well for Nine Melbourne, not so Sydney.

Cricket numbers on Fox are really low and poor!

Seven and Nine News in Sydney seem to be a bit closer than they have been for the last month or two. Viewers watching the various sports before and after probably dictate a lot of the flow, but there might be something in the various presenters that have been over summer.

Currently the WTA is far more competitive & unpredictable than the ATP

Decent late night audience or is this BBL overrun?

And the cricket. Big Bash men’s games generally haven’t been exciting.

That has been the case for a decade. But unpredictability is not always good when often the level of play is low. It doesn’t look good when hardly any of the women’s players have consistency. That’s why Osaka is a breath of fresh air, since winning the US Open last year she has reached the SF’s or better in 5 out of her last 6 tournaments.
