Seven scored another big Thursday win, up one from the previous week for a +7 point margin over Nine. Nine’s share dipped two, SBS lost one while ABC and 10 both gained audience.

AFL Thursday was up 100k to a seven-week high of 670k. That was 100k ahead of the NRL on 570k, down 100k from last week’s State or Origin.

10’s Taskmaster returned at just over 400k while ABC saw Grand Design top the same mark after Restoration Australia topped 500k. Law and Order managed 189,000 and Cheap Seats Encore 110,000. Family DNA Secrets on SBS had 180k.

There was another good result for Tipping Point posting a record Thursday audience with a 53% improvement in the timeslot form the equivalent day last year. Following at 6pm Seven News had its second best Thursday of the year.

Earlier, it was close between Sunrise and Today at breakfast as Today had its biggest audience in three week.

Seven News was back on top including a narrow win in Melbourne. Today had one of its best audience numbers of the year to win the 5-city market.

Am surprised 10 brought back Taskmaster to a 7:30 timeslot, it didn’t set the world on fire last time either.

You would think they’d be looking for more than that, they’ll be hoping it adds more viewers on catch up.

Would’ve thought this would be a good series for 8:30 Mondays before HYBPA? starts.

I’d call that an emerging trend for TODAY. I don’t watch breakfast TV but notice that the Sunrise duo seem very “safe sailing.”

Disaster for Sunrise in Melbourne, distant last, coming off Front Bar/Talking Footy hours before and into AFL round on the rights holder network

Wow, that is a shocking result for Sunrise in Melbourne, third behind NB

I think Sunrise went into its new era with Nat and Matt thinking it’s all just business as usual. It’s not, it’s a competitive environment and you need to build your audience. I’m not sold on the Sunrise Duo. Seems all too scripted. Both are terrible interviewers. Karl and Sarah are in a different league.

NB seems to be growing however.

The ratings mix for mornings will be very interesting to watch in the coming years. I think in the medium term NB will continue to grow, with the other two essentially levelling out, and more frequent Today spikes.

I like Matt, but I just don’t think he’s working well with audiences, especially in Melbourne. Sarah and Karl just seem to be a bigger drawcard for Melbourne viewers.

Anyone think Usher works better alongside Nat? Saw a bit this morning and IMO doesn’t gel as well with Monique. Was a totally different vibe, almost a bit awkward and forced at times from Michael, different chemistry and personality to both Doran and her

I think Usher is better kept on 6pm or late news. Always seemed out of place on mornings, like he was there only because he was told to.

I don’t think replacing Matt with Usher would do much at all. The Melbourne audience will likely deteriorate further.

Maybe Michael Usher knows Natalie Barr well which is why they have good chemistry. Maybe he hardly knows Monique Wright which is why they don’t banter easily.

I think Seven should have invested more into Mark Beretta over the years. But maybe he never wanted the main gig.

Mark Baretta hosted the original iteration of Sunrise with Georgie Gardener back in 2000. In 2002, they relaunched it with Chris Reason and Melissa Doyle. So it’s not like they haven’t tried Mark Baretta.

And just on him, again with WS’ OG in 2005 with Lisa Wilkinson (I forget what she was doing at the network before this), but soon after they put AOK in place of him and he’d be there for nearly 13 years. So Reason was tried at breakfast substantially more than once.

Well, yes, but 24 years ago…

Different show and different decade.
