With no Katy Perry or MasterClass, 10 lost some share last night but was only down 1 point. Seven won the night with an increased share from the previous week while Nine, ABC and SBS were steady. Across the markets, Nine won the two biggest with Sydney and Melbourne with Seven ahead elsewhere while 10 ranked second in Melbourne. 10 again was the top channel and network in the key demo groups posting its biggest shares of the week.

MasterChef recorded its best Thursday result for three weeks with The Project also delivering for 10 in key demos. A Law and Order repeat missed the top 20 to rank 21st just behind Seven’s movie, while Nine’s was 25th for the night. The Heights on ABC could only manage 31st place.

News results were steady except for ABC News that dropped 60,000 while 10’s 6pm News made a rare appearance in the top 20.

10 was doing well with MasterChef, but its shares were dragged down by SVU.

Seven News Melbourne, after a win yesterday goes back to trailing Nine News. Very small gaps between 7 and 9 news in eastern markets. (Look at Sydney!)

Sorry - it must be a slow news week. I can’t help analysing this

Unless I miss the rationale behind this but I don’t understand the ‘split’ for Project, Seven News and Nine News into two segments for ratings purposes as they all seem like ONE continuous program to me. It sort of made sense in the past when Today Tonight used to exist in some markets. And interestingly, Nine and Seven do not split their Sunday news but Ten does.

Ratings: MasterChef tops entertainment offerings on Thursday night TV

From Nine

Nine News was the most watched program of the night in Brisbane and the No.2 program of the night in Sydney and Melbourne.

Nine News 6.30 was the No.1 program of the night in Sydney and the winning news broadcast in Brisbane.

A Current Affair claimed its 7pm timeslot in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Hot Seat won the gameshow battle in Sydney and Brisbane.

9Go! was the winning multichannel across the 5 City with People 16-39 (5.0%) .

Network 10:

  • #1 network in under 50s and all key age groups.

They are just split into two segments. If you want, just find the average for each state news bulletin by combining 6 and 6:30 figures and divide by 2

What’s going on with Brisbane? Nine’s been leading for a while

No big deal but I just thought that it’s a waste of Top 20 spots.

Why does Nine’s Late News add the day of the week to its title each night, while The Latest doesn’t? Does this mean that the weekly average only counts for The Latest, as Nine’s Late News codes its news differently each night?

Yes. Probably due to different start times across the week plus not being broadcast at the same time in all markets.

Seven News lost to Nine News by 14,000 viewers in the first half but won the second half by 18,000. If these figures were averaged over the hour I think Seven News narrowly won.

And… It’s back down again

Fair point. Didn’t really take a look at that second half

Thats Thursdays for you. Home and Away also about 80k down, Project down, ABC News down.

Seven leads at 5pm then Nine takes over at 5.30 then 6-7.

Has there been a lot of repeats of The Chase of late? Is that why it’s not as dominant as it once was? I’m not a regular viewer.

Not sure. I watch The Chase much more than Hot Seat though, and I’m in the eastern states.
