Nine Network - Programs and Schedules
#2

I was expecting the Aus Open to be higher last night with Lleyton Hewitt’s last match but it seems the Big Bash takes a fair few sport fans away from tennis these days.

#3

Yeah but Hewitt’s was a pretty one sided match, we tuned out for most of it as the result was pretty obvious. For a round 2 match of the Australian Open to beat the semi final of the Big Bash still shows the strength of Tennis.

#4

Also BBL beat the tennis in Adelaide which is a good result for Ten in the city. BBL beat the tennis in major demographics too.

#5

Good result for tennis and Big Bash. Including Perth, the cricket was just short of the tennis numbers in TP. Session 2 of cricket up 37% on last year’s semi-final and session 1 up 39%.

Elsewhere, The Family Law lost a big chunk of its audience (for what I though was a much better second episode), however last week’s episode was the number one time-shifted show and picked up an extra 105,000 to reach 471,000.

#6

Ten should start the BBL at 7pm. They’re giving the tennis coverage a half hour head start. Surely the Project can return after the BBL finishes. It took Seven a long time to realise that it was better to return H&A after the Tennis season.

17 of the 20 Multichannel entries are kids shows on ABC2. They should code them into something like ABC Kids AM and ABC Kids PM. Neighbours almost missed the top 20 because all these kids shows are individually coded.

This again? You sound like a broken record from three years ago. :stuck_out_tongue: Just because they’re kids shows doesn’t mean they hold less value. If you want to see other shows then subscribe to OzTam and get the Top 100 or Top 200.

You should be more concerned about individual programs being split into two or three sections to make an appearance in these top 20 lists. That’s shonky!

Ratings: Lleyton Hewitt’s final game serves up 929,000 viewers for Seven’s tennis coverage

250,000 for The Family Law

Apologies for the headline but “serves up” must be used at least once during the Australian Open

Very punny. :stuck_out_tongue:

They do if the figures are distorted. These shows are also rating in the demos and I don’t think 58,000 16-39ers are watching Fireman Sam

#12

I think we covered all this before and already the usual suspects are out treading the same ground. Not trusting the ratings system is probably a discussion for another thread.

#13

It wasn’t ideal for viewers and Seven/Ten that Lleyton Hewitt’s final ever match was up against the first BBL final. Melbourne’s was still massive, over 400k.

Seven News finally won in Melbourne (considering the tennis coverage and all) as well.

It meant Tennis (evening) didn’t even get 1m, let along more than Tuesday’s 1.2m.

It also was worse for Ten, the BBL ratings went backwards (to 700k).

HOWEVER… What were the streaming results yesterday, surely another record? 900k to 1m?

Johanna Griggs said on Ch 7 just before, that over 4 million people watched Seven’s tennis yesterday?

Does that include the 820k something streams (which didn’t break Wednesday’s record)?

Thanks @TV.Cynic

Streams do not relate to individual unique viewers however. Seven has said that most people switch between multiple streams checking out which match to watch so that might be 10 streams per individual - so divide by 10 to start with. Then each time someone logs on they count again. Average view time per stream last year was 5 minutes. The number is also a national number not 5-cities and it has also been stated that many people using the service are already watching the TV and using this as a second screen so they would be double counted. So trying to convert the stream number to the equivalent of a ratings number, you don’t get a very high figure. Can see why OzTAM is having trouble reporting these numbers.

I would say the 4 million number is most likely a “reach” number - number of people nationally who at some time during the day watched more than 60 seconds of coverage but without detailed info from Seven we don’t know.

I think that Seven would have to be disappointed at those Sydney news ratings. Despite having the tennis as a lead-in, Nine News was the leader in Sydney by quite a healthy margin and they didn’t even have cricket or anything like that as a lead-in either.

If that’s a sign of things to come for 2016, then it’s proof that replacing the lead-in program was just a band aid solution and that there are still problems with Seven News Sydney.

I know that Nine’s programs were against the Tennis (Hewitt’s final game) and the Cricket Semi-Final, but geez its ratings were low across the board. ABC’s normal programming beat Nine’s. However, it is probably a good idea to air the Matt and Kim to the Rescue in summer rather than in the official ratings season.

I am surprised with Seven’s lower ratings than usual, considering the tennis being on before and after the news.

#18

Yes Nine post 7.30 did worse than Ten the night before!

My old neighbour’s daughter was 17 and loved watching ABC 4 kids especially Peppa Pig - so it is possible.

I’d suspect the figure in 16-39 though more likely parents with young kids.

Yes that Fireman Sam demographic would be parents watching it with their kids or older siblings watching it with their younger siblings. I think that number is pretty fair and accurate that almost 1 in 4 kids had someone older watching it with them.
