Data released earlier this year suggests the Kayo numbers are close to the Foxtel numbers for the NRL and AFL.
So on nights they are both on there are perhaps 400K average viewers that a few years ago would be showing up in the respective FTA and STV ratings

Youtube fills a lot of my time now. So much content on Youtube to keep you entertainedâŠa lot of programs put the highlights up and you donât need to endure the adâs or less interesting parts of the program. I didnât watch DWTS but noticed the dances where all on thereâŠ15 minutes max to watch the program instead 90 minutesâŠor however long it was on 7

The drop of viewers on FTA is quiet obvious with social media. Top stories are on Facebook and Twitter, which makes no point in watching FTA
With several streaming services, Netflix, Stan, Kayo, YouTube etc makes more to miss FTA
In 2011, social media and these streaming services were close to non existence, so the population would need to watch FTA to get their news and programs. Unfortunately, year by year FTA viewership will continue to decline

Sydney 2000 Olympics (Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony or Cathy Freeman) wouldâve been without a doubt the best in that metric, surely? Iâd imagine at least 50% or more of the then entire nation? But that was an old ratings system.
In the present system, wouldâve been the 2005 Aus Open final. When nearly 1/3 of the entire nation (almost 6 million of then 20m population) watched the whole match. Peak minute mightâve been something like 7m. Reach maybe over 8m.
At the moment, TV weeps at those sorts of figures! Not even Bartyâs win in January came close to that, acknowledging these days we do have streaming, etc yes.
The recognised number one is the Funeral of Diana; number two The Wedding.
The point is that even in the past and even for the most popular shows most of the population isnât watching TV.
