Seven had an easy win on Thursday despite the AFL audience dropping week-on-week. It was helped by a big audience for 7Mate in Peth where the channel ranked second with double the share of the third ranked Channel Nine. Nine’s share slipped back without Wimbledon of the previous week plus no NRL while ABC had its best Thursday for seven weeks. Ten had a second consecutive week under 15%. Nine still won the NRL states with AFL markets going to Seven.

No surprise that news was a dominant feature of the night with Home and Away the best prime time entertainment offering. ABC News coverage of media conference saw it dominate multichannel rankings.

Q+A was up 85k from the previous week.

The afl helped seven win the night. Had Fremantle dockers been competitive and scored more goals, the numbers would have been higher. Fremantle played a terrible game against Geelong cats at Perth stadium.

ABC News channel’s coverage of Victorian press conference topped its broadcast of NSW government press conference.

10 News First didn’t get any boost in Melbourne even it started right after the Victorian press conference.

Nine News continued its strong performance in Sydney and Melbourne.

I think a lot of Melburnians would’ve been out and about last night, enjoying freedom before another lockdown (perhaps as evidenced by relatively low news ratings compared to what they have done before on major news days and lockdowns as well as comparing to Sydney’s). AFL was also one-sided, although there was nothing else at all on.

The 5.00-5.30pm part of Hot Seat didn’t air in Melbourne due to the Vic Government lockdown announcement. Hot Seat started at 5.30pm with the episode already in progress.

Nobody tunes into 10 for breaking news. ABC News is the most reliable channel for showing the live press conferences, followed by Nine, then Seven. 10 is dead last.

Debatable. They all try hard with top effort.

Interesting to see 10 News beat ABC News in Brisbane.

At breakfast, numbers were again higher than usual with Sunrise in the lead from Today by 50,000, the largest margin of the week. Today was 30k ahead of News Breakfast. Today’s ratings in Brisbane are on a par with recent results but News Breakfast is now more competitive in SEQ.
