Thursday night’s coverage of the AO tennis gave Nine its best Thursday share of 2021 with wins in all markets except Perth where Seven again won. ABC and 10 dropped 1 point from the previous week while Seven’s new line up, while competitive, was down from the BBL on the previous Thursday.

The night session of last night’s tennis was again coded into multiple sessions with the highest recording 633,000 with 463,000 for the post 9pm session.

For Seven, the premiere of Wife Swap Australia managed 346,000 in total people and ranked 9th in the key 25-54 demo.

Back Roads was the top prime time entertainment show with Q+A that followed recording the same audience as the previous week. 10’s repeat of Ambulance Australia just made the top 20. 10 Shake audience starting to improve slightly.

The day session of Australian Open made its first appearance in the top 20 (both overall and multichannels) thanks to Thanasi Kokkinakis’ five-set thriller against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ash Barty’s defeat of Daria Gavrilova.

Sam Stosur’s straight sets loss to American Jessica Pegula in just 50 minutes reflects the dropoff in the post 9pm session ratings.

I’m sure Ash Barty v Daria Gavrilova earlier in the day would’ve helped too. Am I right be thinking “Day” stretches 7 hours (11am to 6pm)? If so, surely that would’ve been a more obvious session to spilt code! In saying that, with everyone back at school and work, that average is rather impressive on broadcast, as heaps would’ve been on 9Now.

And agree with Johnson, had Rafael Nadal been shown on the main channel after Alex de Minaur, I think Nine’s Session 2 and maybe even Late would’ve been higher and their shares too.

Same night last year Night was over 800k metro (although with Kyrgios), but the previous night was much lower than this years Day 3 which was much higher.

9Gem and 9Go rating better this year too. Late is clearly the session down on previous years, but for obvious reasons.

Don’t know if that’s what Seven expected or not

Honestly they should have been airing the Nadal match on the main channel. He is definitely one of the most popular players. Also I don’t think anyone expects much from Stosur anymore so she’s not going to draw a big audience. Her match was painful to watch.

Nine would be expecting big ones the next couple nights with Kyrgios and (presumably) Barty in primetime should pull big numbers.

Very rare to see Australian Open Day session appear in the top 20. The Kokkanakis-Tsitsipas match went for over 3 hours.

good seeing the Day of the Australian Open make the top 20. I thought that the day was split into 2 for the ratings - Day and Afternoon? But looks like just the one average number. So the 7 hours is one impressive result.

The night session split into 3 again (plus the pre-match segment for the East)

Great to see Seven News at 4:30 in the top 20.

It’s evident that 10 News’ audience has shifted to 9 in Adelaide since the centralisation. With the tennis on this week, 10 has boosted back up. It will be interesting to see if they stay on 10 or return to 9 in coming weeks.

I thought she retired years ago.

When Gogglebox returns next week this is going to get crushed.

I made comment a week ago as whether it was in Nine Adelaide’s best interest to still keep the 5pm news running and push the tennis to the multis.

The normality of Nine News Sydney’s ratings seem to be returning, but still with fairly fierce competition from Seven Sydney.
The loss for Seven News Melbourne is quite humiliating, with more than a ~100,000 lead.
Fairly stiff competition in QLD too, with Seven and Nine clashing, particularly in the first hour. Seven managed to win the hour however, like the previous days.

Why don’t Seven split Home and Away into 3 segments for Thursday’s 3 episodes, but love to split the Afternoon News into 2?

Tennis giving 9 some nightly wins but not doing its news any favours it seems, except in Melbourne.
7News Brisbane wins both half hours, and it’s 4th weeknight in a row.

What’s strange is, in consolidated they usually do.

Were you expecting a higher or lower figure?

I think it’s a pretty solid number given the 8:30pm timeslot.

Was expecting lower. Yep, a decent number against the tennis, on a Thursday and at 8:30. But not sure if media will say it’s a success nor if its demographic performance will be acceptable enough
