The new season of Gogglebox got off to a good start last night and helped deliver 10’s best share of the survey so far. The audience of 574,000 was the top entertainment show of the night and up on the equivalent episode of 2021 that had 501,000. Earlier the third episode of First Dates hit a season high , lifting over 400,000 for the first time.

Nine also had a good night with the return of NRL- the season premiere had 426,000 compared to 2021’s opener that had 466,000. It helped Nine boost its share by 3 points.

Seven stayed competitive, though the second episode of Home and Away was the first below 400k for the year.

Earlier Nine News managed a rare number one spot as Seven news in Sydney dropped to a 2022 low – the first time below 200k this year.

ABC saw its share drop more than 3 points – Foreign Correspondent down 145k while Q and A saw its audience almost halve week-on-week down 125k after last week featured the eviction of a participant.

The pay TV audience for the NRL season opener were lower than last year’s 335,000 when the Storm hosted the Rabbitohs.

I wonder if Peter Mitchell’s absence is having an impact on Seven News Melbourne’s ratings.

Sad to see that Octonauts on ABC Kids beat NRL in Melbourne and Perth and almost in Adelaide. (Even know I don’t like NRL)

What’s happened to Seven News Sydney?

They were competitive a couple of weeks ago and achieving the odd win against Nine and now they’re nearly 90,000 behind.

They finished on Feb. 20. Even in the week after it was over Seven was out-rating Nine on some nights.

The low bit rate assigned to 9Gem (even for 9GemHD) makes NRL games hard to watch for me. I had brief look and switched straight back to Fox League.

Adelaide really not giving 10 News or The Project any loving, noticeably missing from those rankings.

NRL lead-out on Nine happened meaning viewers naturally watch Nine News before the game. I guess this was always going to be the case for the first match of the season.

First Dates Australia just needed a regular time slot and for viewers to warm to the restaurant staff…which I feel have been selected very well unlike staff in the past who have virtually been non existent in the Australian version……it’s a feel good program, nothing too serious.
