Big weather events such as the one in the lower South Island really highlight the lack of resources the bulletin often has despite the whole ‘largest newsroom in the country’ line, even though Stuff publish a daily newspaper out of Invercargill. Tonight’s weather story covered by an Auckland reporter, reusing the same old social media sourced footage from Thursday and some zoom interviews. Last nights story really only covered Canterbury because the reporter is based there.
Needless to say 1 News managed to out do them.

Playout error last night. First ad-break didn’t fire, then it looked as if someone kept hitting next to bring up the next segment (until the second sports story) then hard-cut to commercial. Came back to second segment as normal.
Do they normally pre-record each segment (including presentation) like that now, or was that just a Labour Day special?

Surely they will update that thumbnail for 2026, especially now since The Hui has lost its funding, it will need to be updated.

Considering that Heather seems to make almost a weekly appearance, though as a contributor being interviewed as the metservice representative, I dont see any issue with them keeping her image there lol but yes it really should showcase Laura and Imo
