Three News

I am hoping that Imogen becomes a fill-in host for Three News. She has a lot of potential and is a natural in front of the camera. The same can be said for Lisette as well. With all the coverage she’s done internationally the past few years, she brings even more credibility

I could have sworn she was announced as joining Stuff with everyone else. Perhaps not, though.

EDIT: Here we are:

But Simon went to the NBR…

I think Shayne Currie / NZH Media Insider jumped the gun a bit to try and beat Stuff to the official announcements
His sources clearly aren’t that solid.

I would’ve thought Laura would’ve filled in on weeknights if Sam was away?

Obviously Laura’s also away… otherwise she probably would have done so.

Yeah, I quite like his relaxed style. Not sure about jumping in the Seine though!

Dire.

In an auditor’s report attached to the financial documents, PricewaterhouseCoopers says: “The ability of the company to support its ongoing operations for the foreseeable future is dependent on whether the company’s strategic transformation initiatives will be sufficient to mitigate the impacts of the decline in the advertising market and reduce reliance on the ultimate parent entity for financial support.
“There are also uncertainties relating to the ultimate parent entity’s willingness to continue to provide financial support beyond the 12 months from the date of signing these financial statements.
“If the strategic transformation initiatives do not sufficiently reduce the company’s need for such support these events and conditions, along with the other matters set out in note two, indicate that material uncertainties exist that may cast significant doubt on the company’s ability to continue as a going concern. Our opinion is not modified in respect of this matter.”

You’d think Stuff must be worried that their investment in a new set for ThreeNews, funded by the $6-8 million annual fee from WBD, might go to waste if WBD decides to pull the plug on its latest strategy…

It cant cost that much to convert a room into a green screen studio though, unless you mean the vr effects and the costs that come with that. Either way I think Stuff will be fine, WBD NZ on the other hand well, I just dont see it lasting

Stuff are supposedly looking at leasing a building tho which I don’t imagine comes cheap

Under this new structure they have pretty much gutted the place now, so if this doesn’t work you could well be right. From now the 6pm bulletin is the only new programming WBD are paying for with their own funds, any thing else locally made will be done with ‘funding partners’ meaning NZ on Air or sponsors foot the bill, these cost savings could go a long way to save cash.

Again the ‘digital first’ mantra sounds good but it doesn’t translate into revenue like the linear FTA model provided.

And if WBD do pull the plug, Stuff can still use their own studio for anything else they produce. Video content has been on the rise for some time, so for a traditionally read-first model, it might be the best strategic step they make this decade. Time will tell.

Was that interview with David Seymour on the news last night filmed in the newshub offices? It looked like it. They still look lagely intact. I would have thought they’d have started to strip the office gear out and hock it off… unless they’re waiting until the current lease runs out?

True and hey, TVNZ have $30million to find. Give them 12 months when WBD have decided to shut up shop and TVNZ decides to outsource its news

Also “digital first” means nothing if no local shows are being made - NZ On Air funding is in short supply/high demand. WBD has just littered ThreeNow with overseas content and I can’t see them having any locally produced shows on ThreeNow beyond 2025.

They’re still using the offices, aren’t they? At least some people - I imagine those whose jobs directly involve being on air, or getting the show on air - will be working out of there.

That reminds me that TVNZ wanted to buy Stuff a few years ago. Sliding Doors moment, that. What could have been…

She did on Friday. The days Lloyd filled in for Sam is most likely Laura’s “weekend”

That doesn’t sound good

And Tova is back in her happy place the last couple of nights, gotcha stories leading the bulletin. The first asking the pm if Shane Reti will get demoted because he failed to mention something in an interview with Tova …
Maybe just me but I dunno if that is what is gonna get people tuning back in in droves.

If the Olympics are rating anything like they are in Australia, I think it is tough to judge the bulletin in this current period.
