Tones And I’s reveal leaves The Voice Coaches spinning
Second-chance artists earn redemption and stunning chair turns
Tonight, The Voice on Seven and 7plus unveiled the biggest twist in the show’s history.
With Melanie C, Ronan Keating, Richard Marx and Kate Miller-Heidke believing their teams were complete, host Sonia Kruger stunned them with the revelation that global superstar Tones And I had secretly been operating as a fifth Coach throughout the Blind Auditions.
When Tones And I emerged, the scale of the twist became clear. The chart-topping artist had spent the entire Blind Audition phase watching every performance, every chair turn and every missed opportunity.
Explaining why she chose to give artists a second chance, Tones shared: “There were some that were genuinely incredible, but you guys were getting to the end and I could tell you were being extra harsh. Some, I just genuinely think, needed to shake off the nerves and go out and do it again.”
The twist sparked tension as Richard reminded the returning artists that the singers already on the Coaches’ teams had earned their place in a single audition.
“How lucky are you. You get a second chance. The people on our team had one chance and we chose them,” Richard said.
But Tones wasn’t letting him off the hook, declaring he was the Coach who “said the most, ‘I f***ed up, I made a mistake,’ so I would kindly, respectfully love to make you eat your words.”
The second-chance artists returned to the stage, hoping to prove Tones’ faith in them was justified, as Sonia revealed there was no limit to how many artists each Coach could have on their team.
Eighteen-year-old Litia Keni, from Canberra, earned three chair turns with an emotional performance of Beyoncé’s Listen after working closely with Tones. Melanie C ultimately secured Litia for her team, praising her “beautiful performance”.
Carla Venkataya, 18, from Victoria, also seized her second chance, landing two chair turns with her powerful rendition of Wicked’s The Wizard and I by Cynthia Erivo, earning a place on Team Kate.
The night’s most dramatic comeback belonged to 26-year-old Victorian Georgia Dabbous, who returned to the stage with a commanding performance of Jazmine Sullivan’s Bust Your Windows that earned a four-chair turn.
Tones’ mentoring played a key role in Georgia’s transformation, with the artist crediting her for helping her believe in herself.
Ronan praised Georgia’s performance, telling her: “I love the sound of your voice. Captivating.”
As the audition ended, an emotional Tones declared: “I’m so proud of four chairs. To go from no chairs to four chairs, this is why we have second-chance artists.”
