Channel Ten were considering replacing The Project with another show - comedy panel program The Cheap Seats - before instead choosing to go in a current affairs direction with 10 News+.
Not really. Sounds like it was just one of the random ideas that was put forward when they were considering axing The Project and replacing it with something else. Can imagine there were other, wilder ideas too.
It could have been on the whiteboard in a brainstorm, but it would be hard to sustain a daily comedy show (not to mention that it may not solve the cost issue, as they would still be getting an external production house (Working Dog) to produce it).
That said, it would have been more on brand for 10 than 10N+.
The Daily Mail was the source?
I actually believe this 100%
A TV source said 10 News+ wasn’t ready for prime time.‘It was clear the format wasn’t ready but they needed something fast to replace and justify the budget cuts.’
Yeah clearly it was the end of the contract and they panicked. Working Dog would have laughed at them if they really enquired about Cheap Seats.
Definitely scope to launch a streaming podcast with a few of the cast as a news-talk/analysis format.
Leaning left, centre or right?
What do you want?
Left right out. ![]()
Hey Sarah Jessica Parker, let me know if you need some advice about TV shows being axed.

Would of been ironic to have a cancelled show win a Logie.
Very Grant Denyer winning gold when Family Feud got cancelled
10 finally threw The Project off 10Play ![]()
Just like the social media feeds still pumping out nonsense? Just be done with this trash and move on.
Bit like this thread - time to close it off
