The Project

Carrie is back in Australia and back on The Project tonight, so she wasn’t going to be staying in London to cover the Queen’s funeral as some suggested.

Lisa must have been standing on something to make her appear taller in last night’s live cross to her and Lucy Macdonald in London, in previous days the height difference between her and Lucy was very obvious.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned that the hosts are not sticking to wearing black outfits like the presenters of other news programs have been since the Queen’s death. They did on Monday but they started wearing other colours Tuesday and Wednesday. Not criticising but it’s interesting that all other news programs have chosen to continue wearing black.

Im not surprised to be reading this in The Project thread tho.

Exactly right. No shock here.

Studio 10 also stopped wearing black yesterday.

The Drum also hasn’t been wearing black for a while - including this hi vis vest yesterday - not available in black

Maybe they had an Amber Sherlock situation?

But in all seriousness they will wear black again on her funeral day.

Next Week On The Project.

Sunday To Friday, 6.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.

We catch up with multi-platinum, 12-time Grammy Award-winner John Legend on Sunday, to chat about the release of his eighth studio album*, Legend,* an epic double album exploring the themes of a sensual Saturday night, while the second album evokes the vibes of Sunday morning. John’s standout performance at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards earlier this week had fans wanting more. Susie Youssef speaks to John about his celebrated career as he and partner Chrissy Tiegen prepare to welcome their third child.

Also on Sunday, Lisa chats to two of the most influential women in America, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. Following the success of their best-selling book, The Book Of Gutsy Women, comes Gutsy, the highly anticipated eight-part documentary event following Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton as they celebrate the gutsy women who inspire them**.** They speak with pioneering women artists, activists, community leaders and everyday heroes who show us what it truly means to be gutsy. Gutsy is now available to stream on Apple TV+.

On Monday, as the world prepares to farewell Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, The Project will bring you all the latest from London.

On Tuesday, Carrie sits down with Melanie Chisholm, otherwise known as Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, from one of the biggest girl groups of all time, The Spice Girls. Their music was the soundtrack to the 90s as the group introduced girl power to the world. After 25 incredible years in the spotlight, Mel tells her amazing life story in her own words, giving a full and honest account of what life was really like in The Spice Girls with the release of her first book, Who I am. Carrie meets Mel at her home in London for this open and frank interview.

British singer Tom Grennan is our special guest on Wednesday when he joins us in the studio to chat about his first ever Australian tour. Having completed a sold-out tour of the UK last year along with three UK chart-topping singles including his international bona-fide hit Little Bit of Love, By Your Side and the number one trending song Let’s Go Home Together with Ella Henderson, there’s no doubt Tom’s star is on the rise. Now, it’s Australia’s turn to fall in love with this talented musician.

On Thursday in a TV first, pop legend Robbie Williams joins us at the desk for a very special chat. It’s been a big year for our favourite Brit who filmed his big budget biopic, Better Man, earlier this year in Melbourne. His latest album, XXV, featuring many of his greatest hits and fan favourites, all re-recorded and newly orchestrated with the Metropole Orkest, has just been released. We catch up with Robbie ahead of his performance at the AFL Grand Final on Saturday.

So we now know Carrie went to London to interview Mel C just before the Queen’s passing, wonder why she didn’t stay to cover it for the Project, or was she already on the way back to Melbourne when the news broke?

We actually already knew Carrie went to London specifically for the premiere and publicity for the new George Clooney and Julia Roberts movie. This interview has already screened on The Project. The additional interviews were probably organised to make the trip worthwhile.

Carrie has young children so she probably couldn’t simply change her schedule to stay in London for another couple of weeks tyo cover the funeral. Lisa Wilkinson has adult children so she can easily jump on a plane at short notice and be away for a couple of weeks.

The start of tonights show was a bit messy, Lisa was introduced as being live in London but then said something like “I’ve been told it’s over to you in the studio”, so Rach reads the update about events in London and then crosses straight back to Lisa for her to continue.

This quote in the Media Diary in The Australian. Thoughts on Lisa reporting on the coverage considering her husband is the most vocal republican?

For one of the biggest royal occasions in history, it seemed a bold choice. Lisa Wilkinson – the wife of Peter FitzSimons , Australia’s most vocal republican – was dispatched to the UK to spearhead Ten and The Project’s coverage of the Queen’s funeral.

Have you ever been in a relationship? People can have different opinions.

Well in this case both Lisa and Peter share the same opinion.

Either way, it’s IMO an unjustifiable decision to have the wife of the head of a republican movement (who supports a republic herself) helming coverage of the Queen’s death and funeral. It’s a bad look.

Why? I would happily support a republic, but acknowledge and admire the work the Queen has done.

A bad look… to whom, exactly? The Australian and its readers? Not really The Project’s audience.

It is possible to put one’s personal feelings aside and just be a professional and do their job.
And that’s what she has done. It’s not like she is inserting any pro-republic commentary in her reporting.
