Different channel, different scheduling. They seem to be slightly more sane over at Nine.
I don’t think they’re deliberately trying to kill it off - rather they just prioritise other programming such as dramas and US imports, and The Latest has just been caught up in the crossfire.
Remember that the purpose of The Latest is just to hold viewers as late into the night as possible.
Yet they put that Bondi shit on before it that no one watches. They’ve already lost the audience. Makes no sense.
For the first few years, The Latest was running anywhere between 30 and 40 mins in run time including commercials. Since the move to Perth, I have noticed it running at about 28 minutes.
First time watching in weeks. The Latest started around 10.40, a much more reasonable start time.
Re: the set. Get rid of all the cluttery graphics at the top of the background.
Ditch the entire set and give them a digital version of the Sydney set and a replica desk. If they’re not going to use a practical set, it’s the second best option.
I watched for the first time in months last night, and… boy do I miss the Sydney product.
Do you think if the new project hosted by Katrina Blowers(?) could see the show move to Brisbane?
No
That’s a panel show, isn’t it? So a completely separate thing.
Yeah i know. I mean moving The Latest to QLD as well. Which would already have resources (you’d assume) that the panel show would be utilizing.
Tuesday November 5, 2024: Charlotte Goodlet presenting tonight
Do we have a return date?
20 January? Start of ratings? Later?
I really hope they key in a different set rather than that visually cluttered Perth mess.
A variation to the format with a return of the chat/hot topics segment would be good.
Still Cricket on all week for wc 19th so no
27th is cricket so potentially 28th but Seven doing the TBA thing
Thanks Aaron.
I hope that they either gracefully and perhaps quitely axe this programme in its current form, or make use of the extended hiatus to reassess The Latest completely going forward.
It’s become a poor quality ghost of its former self from a production perspective
First issue though would be a consistent start time - yes, it is used to keep viewers watching later into the evening, but how many of those viewers are already watching the US shows, etc they already have scheduled prior?
In saying that, if they plan to schedule all, or a few, of the new AFL shows on the main channel, then that might also give it a boost.
But yes, format needs a look at because there is currently nothing really about it that stands out from the four other late bulletins out there.
