The Cheap Seats

Any reason why new ep isn’t on ten play?

Someone fell asleep at their desk?

Not unusual for 10Play to have this issue

New gfx are nice but no consistency with updated environment graphics.

Yeah those new on screen graphics look so tacky.

New opening is cool though.

Prefer the original opener and supers. Show is still in top form. Love it!

Exactly. Forget the opener and the supers. Just glad to have this show back. Highlight of the week on TV

Melanie and Tim spoke to Mumbrella ahead of tonight’s episode.

I still think that ten should air the cheap seats on nights like the election night as a genuine alternative to election programming. Australia does not turn to them for election coverage so they should 100% take the piss using all the footage and highlights from the election campaign and then just cross for updates to the newsroom.

And do the same for other big events like royal weddings, US election, and other things where pure 10 news programming just won’t rate against the competitors

Did anyone notice that during tonight’s episode, when someone in the audience laughed at the comments, they sounded like duck quacks?

Could have been the same annoying laugher from The Project on Friday.

I like the guests being featured in the opening credits now.

Cheap seats hosting election coverage would be excellent.

Yes it was really irritating.

Also the audio mix wasn’t good. Laughter and applause overwhelming Melanie in particular at times.

And while semi-educational, thought Santo’s segment went way too long. Especially at the top of the show. But then Working Dog owns it.

I enjoyed seeing Santo, but agree and thought the positioning in the episode was an odd choice.

The Australian today has a feature article on Working Dog, including quotes from Tom Gleisner and Tim McDonald.

A couple of paragraphs on The Cheap Seats:

Working Dog did a number of pilots for The Cheap Seats before Ten gave the new format the green light.

Although the format tracks the news, McDonald is adamant it’s not trying to educate. “We are more interested in media coverage of the news - from traffic reporters in regional Australia to Irish breakfast TV to German reality shows,” he said.

TV presenters aren’t always thrilled to be featured on The Cheap Seats. “There have been a few cold shoulders and not all Seven News reporters are fans of ours,” McDonald said.
