The Block

EPISODE 25: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7

Rumpus Reveal

Sonny and Alicia have woken up smiling. After a huge week of ups and downs, they end on a high winning the $260,000 Titanium caravan.

Emma and Ben on the other hand are devastated at coming second again. They have some support in Robby and Mat, who think they should have won the challenge.

It’s a public holiday on The Block which means it’s even more stressful for our contestants, who are 24 hours away from delivering their rumpus room space.

There are all sorts of issues for Han and Can as they complete their rumpus room, with wrong sizing of ordered furniture causing them all sorts of pain.

Britt and Alicia team up together and go to Bunnings on a shopping trip, glad they have formed a strong friendship.

Robby and Mat don’t finish their rumpus room and a furious after a floor board supply issue meant there weren’t enough floorboards to finish their room. But was it their fault and bad project management?

Scott arrives and calls “tools down” and another week is finished on The Block.

Our judges Shaynna, Marty and Darren arrive and judging commences.

EMMA AND BEN HOUSE ONE - SPENT $8,700

Lots of love for Emma and Ben’s rumpus room. Marty thought the look and feel was incredible and felt very Daylesford. Shaynna would have liked it to be more kid friendly. The judges thought Em and Ben are back and have once again set the mark for the rest of the competition.

HAN AND CAN HOUSE TWO - SPENT $11,570

The best feedback so far for the girls. The judges loved the layout of the cinema room. The furniture choices including the couch were just right. Marty thinks this room is so marketable. Lots to love about it across the board.

BRITT AND TAZ HOUSE THREE - SPENT $10,872

The judges couldn’t be more clear. They think Britt and Taz got it wrong completely making the rumpus space a wellness room. It means now they only have one living space for a luxury home. They have advised the married couple from Western Australia to completely rethink what they are doing. But will Britt and Taz listen? They plan to consult their real estate agent.

SONNY AND ALICIA HOUSE FOUR - SPENT $10,846

Lots of love this week for Sonny and Alicia’s room, especially the burgundy colour drenching. Colour drenching is what Darren had been waiting for all season on The Block. Shaynna thinks the room is quintessentially Daylesford.

ROBBY AND MAT HOUSE FIVE - SPENT $9,986

The judges thought it was a poor effort. It could be anywhere in Melbourne, not very Daylesford. Shaynna is annoyed at all the indoor plants. They think the boys dropped the ball. Not their best week.

Han and Can take out the win, plus a 10. A $20,000 week for the girls. Emma and Ben are also smiling. Despite coming second they still have a good week, taking home $10,000 after having the best budget for the week.

EPISODE 29: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14

Kitchen Reveal

It’s nearing the end of kitchen week and our Blockheads are working frantically to finish.

Sonny and Alicia have their usual Saturday argument before room reveal, this time over the placing of a table. But as always, they get over it quickly.

Alicia is annoyed at Britt and tension is simmering after Britt forgot to take her shopping, despite the fact according to Alicia they had planned it all week. She says she at least expected a text as a courtesy.

She is feeling a bit stood up but she doesn’t want to confront Britt - yet.

Han and Can have another Saturday night argument as they struggle to finish and pain their kitchen. Han is so exhausted but she wants to just keep on working.

Robby and Mat are very emotional after Scotty calls “tool’s down,” as it’s been such a huge week.

Britt and Taz are also very emotional as this week tested them like no other as they continue to miss their two young children back home in WA.

Our judges Shaynna, Darren and Marty arrived and judging starts

EMMA AND BEN HOUSE ONE - SPENT $12,223

The judges immediately noticed how Emma and Ben have completely changed the layout of their living and dining spaces and they are so impressed. Shaynna thinks they have saved this house. The judges loved the simplicity and the styling of the kitchen. The only criticism was where the fridge was, next to the entrance of the main bedroom.

HAN AND CAN HOUSE TWO - SPENT $20,845

Marty and Darren absolutely loved this kitchen, but Shaynna wasn’t a fan. She felt it lacked soul and was not Daylesford at all. Marty put his real estate hat on and thought it was flamboyant and very marketable. The judges thought like host Scott Cam, the rangehood was too low. Mixed feedback for the girls.

BRITT AND TAZ HOUSE THREE - SPENT $17,968

So much love for this kitchen, which was helped by the amazing E&S appliances Britt and Taz won back in week two. They thought the ceiling was incredible. The layout was great and the architecture was “breathtaking” according to Darren. Shaynna thought the kitchen had an emotional connection.

SONNY AND ALICIA HOUSE FOUR - SPENT $12,103

Shaynna and Darren really liked this kitchen, especially the blue colour which is so rare in a kitchen, on The Block. But Marty wasn’t a fan saying it was as bland as a piece of bread. Alicia said she is starting to take his judging comments personally. They judges did think the revamped living and dining space was so much better and it really works now.

ROBBY AND MAT HOUSE FIVE - SPENT $19,413

A lot to love in this kitchen for Robby and Mat. Incredible appliance choices and styling. Shaynna said the kitchen had real heart. They weren’t sure about the fake door into the main bedroom, but overall a very positive week.

After a close battle and some amazing kitchens, it’s our first tie on The Block with Robby and Mat and Britt and Taz taking out the win. Sonny and Alicia took the $10,000 Commonwealth Bank budget award again.

EPISODE 33: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

Guest Suite Reveal

Our contestants are busy working hard to try and complete their guest suite, which is two rooms - a bedroom and bathroom.

Sonny and Alicia are way ahead of the pack as everyone else struggles.

It’s been a tough week for the Gold Coast couple and Britt and Taz, but they hug it out in House No.4 and try to put differences aside.

Sonny and Alicia made the first move and want to finish The Block on a high with their former Block besties.

It’s a disaster though for Britt and Taz after so many issues go wrong and they are left waterproofing on a Saturday. In the end they throw in the flag and don’t finish their bathroom.

Robby and Matt and Han and Can also don’t finish, in what has been a brutal week on The Block.

It’s not made any better for Can as it’s her birthday, and she is miserable.

Scotty calls “tool’s down,” and for the first week this year only two teams finish. Whoever wins this week is between Emma and Ben and Sonny and Alicia.

EMMA AND BEN HOUSE NO.1 - SPENT $35,399

So many compliments for the amazing job Emma and Ben have done this week. Darren loved it all, and ended up giving them a ten. Nearly perfect.

HAN AND CAN HOUSE NO.2 - SPENT $38,787

Darren applauded their use of colour in the bedroom. They loved the bathroom, but unfortunately it wasn’t finished.

BRITT AND TAZ HOUSE NO.3 - SPENT $33,804

The judges absolutely loved their bedroom, beautiful styling. They did think it was a bit too rustic. So they really felt for Britt and Taz after they saw their unfinished bathroom. But a lot of positive things to say about the bedroom.

SONNY AND ALICIA HOUSE NO.4 - SPENT $31,077

The judges loved the colour drenching, and what a great effort . It was minimal styling in both the bedroom and bathroom, but it worked. They fell Sonny and Alicia have stepped it up.

ROBBY AND MAT HOUSE NO.5 - SPENT $33,374

The judges loved the bedroom, and didn’t mind there was no kitchenette. It was just so sad for the judges when they saw the unfinished bathroom as they would have been contenders.

So after a big week, Emma and Ben take out the win and two tens, so a $30,000 night. Added with the Domain challenge win, they took home $80,000 this week.

EPISODE 37: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

Back Of House Reveal

There are some awkward scenes between Sonny and Taz, after Sonny lets him know it was he who complained to Foreman Dan about House 3 working ahead on their Alfresco deck.

Foreman Dan agreed with Sonny, and gave Britt and Taz punishment for not working one day next week when Alfresco week starts.

All our contestants are busy trying to complete five rooms this week - laundry, pantry, mudroom, water closet and garage.

Both Han and Can and Sonny and Alicia have their usual arguments on the Saturday before the rooms are revealed.

After a huge week, somehow all the contestants manage to finish and there are some incredible results.

EM AND BEN HOUSE NO.1

The judges loved the elevated appliances in the laundry. But they actually thought the laundry wasn’t very functional, or was the pantry area. They thought this week Em and Ben got their planning wrong. The powder room was divine. The garage is just OK. So some mixed feedback for the Victorian couple.

HAN AND CAN HOUSE NO.2

A lot to love in this space. The judges loved the layout and how they switched it over. Beautiful colour palette. Great finishing. Much better layout compared to House No.1. The garage was beautifully done

BRITT AND TAZ HOUSE NO.3

Stunning job this week for Britt and Taz. Out of all the houses they got their storage just right. Beautiful colour palette. The mudroom was stunning as well. The garage was a real destination. Not much to fault this week for the police from Newman in WA.

SONNY AND ALICIA HOUSE NO.4

The judges thought they missed the layout with the laundry and pantry, but they did praise Sonny and Alicia for including a fridge. The mudroom was a real highlight. The garage, and the wallpaper on the back, was just perfect. A good week for Sonny and Alicia.

ROBBY AND MAT HOUSE NO.5

The European laundry was too small for a luxury house like this in Daylesford. But other than that there is so much to love for Robbie and Mat, especially their powder room. They did miss the decision to tile in their mudroom.

So after a close week, Britt and Taz take out the win. Han and Can are devastated as they were $20,000 over budget and they really needed the win.

Art heist heartache

Melbourne artist Kerry Armstrong has pleaded with heartless crooks who made off with a painting she did as a tribute to Block couple Dan and Dani Reilly’s daughter Billie, to “do a good deed” and return the precious and emotional artwork.

Ms Armstrong has offered a “substantial reward” for anyone with information that leads to the recovery of the painting, but on Friday urged the art thieves to seek good Karma and leave the work somewhere where it could be found.

The work, titled I Am Love was among several painting stolen by brazen thieves from Studio Gallery in Cheltenham last weekend, devastating the Reillys and leaving Ms Armstrong shocked.

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the burglary.

“It is understood two offenders forced entry to the art gallery on Dissik Street just after 3am on September 27,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“Once inside, they stole two artworks worth approximately $23,000 each before fleeing in a white utility. The investigation remains ongoing.”

Dani also mentioned the theft on her Instagram.

Bailey arrived on the morning of Thursday, September 25, following a chaotic six-hour labour, with Emma saying it was “all systems go from around 11pm to 5am”.

A big congratulations to Scotty Cam, he must be soo excited. Surprised he didn’t announce it himself lol

Honestly though happy for them.

EPISODE 45 - Backyard reveal

Backyard and pool week is coming to an end as our contestants limp their way to the finish.

Han and Can struggle the most. It’s all been a lot for the couple from Perth.

Robby and Mat coast to the end, after nearly finishing everything on the Friday before judging.

House 3’s Britt and Taz have had a tough week and stress right to the end, as their outdoor fire flute gets installed on Sunday morning.

Darren arrives with Scotty after “tools down” is called and announces that whoever wins next week will take home two MGs at the end of the competition.

Scotty also reveals at judging that whoever wins next week will have an extra $50,000 off their reserve price.

Our judges Marty, Shaynna and Darren arrive alongside our special guest judge for the last two weeks, landscaper Dave Franklin.

EM AND BEN HOUSE ONE - SPENT $19,375

They loved the landscaping, it reminded the judges of the rolling hills of Daylesford. The plant choices were amazing. The pool cabana was incredible. So many positives for Em and Ben.

HAN AND CAN HOUSE TWO - SPENT $9,753

Marty didn’t like Han and Can’s Japanese inspired garden from the start. While Shaynna, Darren and Dave had mixed feelings. Shaynna was their biggest fan today. They all did love the Japanese inspired arbour.

BRITT AND TAZ HOUSE THREE - SPENT $40,348Lots of love for the wellness inspired back garden. The plant choices are all amazing. Everything gelled really well together in the outdoor areas. Some debate on the practicality of the outdoor creeks. But overall, very positive for Britt and Taz.

SONNY AND ALICIA HOUSE FOUR - SPENT $18,551

Darren described this as the perfect Aussie garden. Lots of space for kids to run around in. The pool cabana was very impressive. The huge outdoor table for entertaining. A lot to love on The Block this week.

ROBBY AND MAT HOUSE FIVE - SPENT $57,151

The judges loved everything about Robby and Mat’s back yard. The huge open fire place. The pool. The cabana was a bit basic compared to the others, but still lots of love.

In a dramatic move, Em and Ben play their secret gnome and win by half a point.

Martin Fox is the worst.

I have no issue with Emma and Ben using the gnome because that’s part of the game, although I feel sorry for the boys because their cellars were very similar. What I don’t agree with was how during the Domain walk through they were allowed to advertise an unfunded rumpus room and cellar. They admitted to the other contestants that they could only make these additions if they won the $50,000 for the most popular house. They mislead the people about the appearance of their cellar because Emma admitted she took the photo from the internet, meaning the votes would’ve been based on something that may not even go ahead. Small changes I understand but not misleading people about two additional rooms.
