Here’s a clip from The Big Breakfast - Seven’s morning show aimed at a youth audience, which lasted for about a year between August 1999 and July 2000. Gawd, I remember watching this getting ready for kindy.

It later became _The Big Arvo_ in 2001 and was eventually axed on May 6, 2005. James Tobin was one of the final few hosts.

Sadly, The Big Breakfast was never a hope against Cheez TV which had Pokémon and Dragonball Z. What might have been if this was successful, we wouldn’t have got that awful Sunrise program.

Good that 2000 is in the title because there’s another short-lived Big Breakfast, which aired on Ten in 1993.

_Agro’s Cartoon Connection_ was another show that took a hit during Cheez TV’s early years.

I remember The Big Breakfast having news updates on the half hour too. My memory is a bit hazy but I think Anna Coren may have done them for a while.

I definitely remember this show. I even remember entering a competition on the show to win a Sega Dreamcast. I put so much effort into it but didn’t win haha. I also remember it used to air the S Club 7 TV show which was the main reason I watched it. I can’t remember many other shows that they aired though so I probably only watched it or got into it towards the end (or when Cheez TV weren’t playing Pokemon!).

The Big Arvo was on when I was in high school and I’d usually flick it on after school (and catch the end of Passions prior haha)… I remember both Luke Jacobz and James Tobin being on it.

Just found a VHS with The Big Breakfast but it is only about 5 minutes and at the very end of the tape in LP. It is in pretty rough condition so I will take some extra time to see if I can get a decent capture out of it.

After testing on a few VCRs I managed to get The Big Breakfast on the very end of this worn tape.
Keep in mind this is in LP so it does not look great.

That is great, thanks for sharing!

My memories of this show are clearly rusty as I would have assumed that it was mostly pre-recorded but based on this video it seemed to be filmed live (I just assumed the assumed news updates would have been inserted in). I guess it was a different time when we got much more live TV. Probably part of the reason it didn’t last too long as expensive to do for a youth focused show.

Even as far back as the 70s the networks broadcast live in the mornings. I can remember The Super Flying Fun Show was broadcast live weekday mornings and that was aimed at children.

I remember watching The Big Arvo back in the day. Didn’t mind this version. But I didn’t watch The Big Breakfast.

Going by the title, i assume the breakfast show only aired for one year - during the year 2000?

It aired in 1999 and into 2000. According to an article on Wikipedia, one of the first co-hosts was there from June 1999 to July 2000.

That’s conflicting with what’s at the top of this thread that says the show started in August 1999 so not sure who is correct.

> The program began in a morning time slot under the title _The Big Breakfast_, before moving to the afternoon as _The Big Arvo_, to make way for _[AMV: All Music Video_ and _Sunrise_.

There was an Olympic version of Sunrise for Sydney 2000 from September 2000 so July 2000 could be right.

The one show that got me watching it was S Club 7 in Miami (which wasn’t a cartoon but a younger skewing comedy). I also remember a Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon and The Powerpuff girls. That’s as much as I remember.

That cartoon was “Sonic Underground” which was incredibly poorly received by longtime Sonic fans, due to every episode having a musical number and the lack of Tails who was pretty much an important character to Sonic in the mainstream Sonic games and various tv series (the previous DIC Sonic cartoons AOSTH and SATAM).
