The Big Bang Theory / Young Sheldon

They’ve also been playing promos and sneak peaks since Sunday across the Nine channels.

Young Sheldon premieres Tue 27 March at 7.30pm followed by new The Big Bang Theory continues Wednesday.

The last on demand streaming of Big Bang Theory was on Presto? and it was Season 8 ? I think so who owns the rights to stream further seasons than that … Ch 9 on 9Now (limited time though) ? Stan?

Seems to have gotten boring from S8 onwards when they all are in relationships . Or maybe it was S9.

Season Two repeats begin on 9GO Monday week at 7pm replacing The Middle.

I thought they might have aired the final season of The Middle after the repeats ended but nope.

Looking at their advanced schedule, 9Go! will air Season 1 in a marathon-mode from Midday up until 8:30pm next Sunday (25th March).

Both shows have been shifted a day early, to be aired on Mondays & Tuesdays instead, still from 7:30pm.

Young Sheldon

Premieres Monday 26 March at 7.30pm

America’s number one comedy, Young Sheldon, premieres in Australia on Monday, March 26, at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now.

The Big Bang Theory audiences have come to know and love the eccentric and extraordinary Sheldon Cooper, and now in a new half-hour comedy series, viewers have the chance to meet him in childhood.

Young Sheldon follows his innocent, awkward and hopeful journey toward manhood when it premieres on Monday, March 26, at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now, with new episodes of The Big Bang Theory to follow at 8.00pm.

In the premiere episode we meet nine-year-old Sheldon and his family for the first time. It isn’t easy growing up in East Texas when you are a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics – and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him.

His father, George, struggles to find his way as a high school football coach and as a father to Sheldon, who he just does not understand. Sheldon’s mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he doesn’t fit in. Georgie, Sheldon’s older brother, does his best in high school but finds it tough to be cool when he takes the same classes with his younger brother. Finally, there’s Missy, Sheldon’s twin sister, who sometimes resents all the attention Sheldon gets, but also remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth.

Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage as Sheldon, Lance Barber as father George, Zoe Perry as mother Mary, Montana Jordan, as Georgie, the older brother, and Raegen Revord, Sheldon’s twin sister Missy.

News Corp reports Nine will continue to show double episodes of Young Sheldon during the Commonwealth Games. In fact they will only clash on April 9 and 10, given Commonwealth Games only runs for 12 days.

Judging by the schedule above, it appears that Nine are doing the same to Young Sheldon like what they did to TBBT, in which they’ll encore the same 2 eps later that same night. Interestingly, a new ep of TBBT is out of the schedule in favour of a 2nd ep of Young Sheldon, but then again, a new ep of TBBT rates poorer than Young Sheldon these days, so maybe the former is destined for an 8:30pm or later timeslot on another night.

Here are the overnight ratings for both shows between 26th March & 10th April:

DateYoung SheldonThe Big Bang Theory
26th March 20181,060,000880,000
27th March 2018985,000822,000
2nd April 2018935,000781,000
3rd April 2018896,000828,000
9th April 2018766,000656,000
10th April 2018744,000615,000

It should be noted that the last two dates were up against the Commonwealth Games.

Young Sheldon also does very well on VPM ratings, with 5 out of 6 eps taking up all of the Top 5 for 9Now on the week of 8-14 April.

I think Nine need to seriously move on from the show, keep using 9Go! if need be for rights/deal purposes.

(Not Young Sheldon though, that’s rated very well).

As mentioned in the “US Television” thread, TBBT will end at the end of the 12th season, which premieres in the US next month.

2.5 men had 12 seasons though? Not a multicamera comedy?

Two and a half men only had 262 episodes over the 12 seasons, where as TBBT will end with 287.

Who has the rights to the previous on demand seasons of the show? Last I think it was Season 7 or 8 on Presto (Anyone remember?) . I know 9now has catchup , but it’s not there for long. Could CBS All Access have older seasons when they launch?

You’d think so if they are tied up elsewhere, considering that it’s still quite popular here and does well in umpteenth airings across multi-channels.

Over in NZ, TVNZ On Demand has every episode available to stream: https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/the-big-bang-theory

Fairfax apparently has the figure wrong, in which it will be 279 eps when the series ends. Ep 256 will be the 12th season premiere, and a season goes for 24 eps, which takes it to 279. In terms of number of eps, TBBT will run longer than Cheers, which ran for 275 eps over 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993.

Glad they’re ending it while still successful. Smart move. Modern Family should save what little quality it has left and bow out after the current season too.

Pretty sure the next season of Modern Family is the last.
