Ten News First Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

10 Queensland is now featuring mentions during the bulletin of stories (or more info on stries) that are coming up after 6pm so now acknowledging that the news doesn’t finish at 6pm anymore.

Implying that they did before?

When the extended news first started that wasn’t acknowledged during the bulletin and nothing post 6pm was promoted. It was just hoped that people kept on watching. Now there is active promotion , at least during the program, to get people to make a conscience decision to watch the 6pm part of 10 News.

@TV.Cynic a truly bizarre choice to actively not promote 6pm Inside 5pm when the viewers who are most likely to watch you at 6 are right there to message to

Anyway. I also think 10 needs to run both 10 and 15 second generic “there’s a new choice at 6 for news” promos and story specific “tomorrow at 6 on ten news, an exclusive investigation into…” type promos too

And I don’t think they are…

Either way, the fact that they are now promoting the 6pm portion of 10 News First is a good sign that it is here to stay.

Interesting that for this current press conference with the Prime Minister and Premiers 10 hve BREAKING NEWS in the EPG.
Haven’t see that happen before.

Yes it appears that it will continue until 3:31 AEDT (3:01 ACDT with no more DWTS encore).

I have “BREAKING NEWS” on BOLD in Sydney for a nominal 30 minute period but the news is on Ten. Normal EPG for Ten here.

From 10 regarding week 11 ratings numbers for 10 News First at 6pm

  • Lifted 10’s timeslot audience 30% compared to the same week in 2019.
  • Lifted 10’s timeslot audience 42% in under 50s compared to the same week in 2019, 44% in 25 to 54s and 31% in 16 to 39s.
  • Up 20% week-on-week.
  • Up 24% in under 50s week-on-week, 29% in 16 to 39s and 20% in 25 to 54s.

This is critical. Not only is it lifting year on year which is not hard given the shit they aired last year at this time but week on week there were more viewers at 6pm for ten. Probably due to a big news week but still good.

It will be interesting when daylight savings ends in Sydney and Melbourne in a couple of weeks.

Indeed and more people stuck inside

Slight update to the 6pm handover for Melbourne. Full 7 day forecast now happens at 6pm (before Mike would tell viewers to stay tuned at 6.25pm).

Jen then restarts with “Tonight” rather than “recapping our top stories”

Going off this video, it looks like there is a new panel on the right side of the Melbourne set now.
Must’ve been added this week because I don’t recall seeing it.

EDIT: Just looked back at some other videos on their Twitter and it seems that the panel has made its first appearance tonight.

The 4:55pm news promos super in breaking news red today.

No need to adjust for social distancing when you’ve had a single talent for news and wide berths built into your set for presentation.

10 News First broke into programming just after 2.00pm about Bondi Beach closing. Strange that they went national with this.
