Do studio/camera/staffing limitations see Ashliegh Raper’s Sunday political analysis now come from the newsroom static shot rather than from the desk? This is only a recent development but it would seem there’s some sort of structural impacting the presentation on weekends. In the past she had done analysis either from the desk or the large screen.
As mentioned last weekend.
Same this weekend with very limited camera movements and the same opening shot and lack of longshots coming back from breaks.
Yes looks like they’ve cut back on weekends and gone to more automation to save on costs. I guess what’s what we get in order to maintain the service. Not ideal but understandable. Better than axing bulletins.
Seen tonight:
Is this the first time we’ve seen a cross to the Brisbane newsroom in quite some time?
Would appear so, doesn’t look too bad! The lighting and framing of the shot look quite good.
Usually they just use the screen which is opposite where Tim is, especially during the local bulletin.
Side note, is that still the ViacomCBS logo just above his right shoulder?
Yeah usually the newsroom looks empty, but the framing of that is very nice actually. The best it’s looked in a while.
I prefer her in the studio. She should be able to stand at the wall, because they still do sport and weather from there.
That shot from the Brisbane newsroom looks great.
All cities should do their daytime news breaks from the newsroom IMO. Gives it an evolving, straight-from-the-newsdesk feel.
Yep looks good now. Hopefully they revert to using this backdrop instead of the plasma. Maybe it finally carked it?
This is what the backdrop has looked like over the years.
I believe Melbourne is the only newsroom which doesn’t have a live newsroom backdrop now?
interesting how they still had the 2005 Ten News logo during the Eyewitness days!
Better than their normal ‘set’.
What for? Comedy festival?
Adelaide Fringe
Idk, does the tone feel right? I mean weather is a different thing
It’s quite common for media personalities to catch up at the Fringe after work, having an OB there is convenient for that purpose but is really silly in the general context of the fact it’s a news bulletin.
A OB from North Plympton for the Beaumont Children dig would’ve been more suitable, however would’ve been a challenge in regard to space.
Fringe for Adelaide is basically the modern version of the Royal Show which they used to present the entire bulletin from back in the 90s, though back then they used to have money for some sort of temporary set.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t in the case of Adelaide, perhaps. There is still the perception the news is an interstate product/presentation (which is half true) so it probably doesn’t hurt to be highly visible in the community for an extended period, even though it’s not a very ‘newsy’ location.
Also, after scrolling through last nights bulletin, I’d hazard a guess they’d be sponsorship dollars attached as there is a reasonable amount of Fringe branding throughout.
I doubt their thinking is “lets do an OB so Tiff can get to another social function”
It’s a massive international event.
IIRC Adelaide presented from Fringe last year (not sure if the whole bulletin, or just weather?) as they’re a media partner for the festival.
all the channels do weather there many times during the month it’s on.
Yeah, and they did it by the river foreshore, so it looked less festival-ly.
