People opting for the perceived better products on 7 and 9 in Sydney and Melb?
or is it just a matter of larger audience/larger switch off. By 6pm the average viewer may have had their fill of news and either turned off completely or gone to a streamer. We’ll never know but would be interesting to know how Ten see the figures.
More people in their cars/traveling at 5pm in Sydney, different demographics and lifestyle probably means people consume news later. Also Sydneysiders are less parochial so state based news probably doesn’t have the same appeal and vv elsewhere. And yes, as you say, perhaps different streaming habits vs somewhere like Melbourne.
There’s a bit of an argument to try different programming at different times in different cities (eg later local news in Sydney) but I don’t think deviation from national programming will ever happen again.
The return of DST and the Brisbane bulletin today featured live reports during the first 30 minutes as well as live weather ahead of 6pm. There was also a live cross during the post 6pm segment as well as live weather just before 6.30pm so basically across the whole bulletin.
