Ten News and Current Affairs

That was the second studio in Melbourne where the Adelaide news was filmed, but the backdrop was a still image of the Perth (in Sydney)/National weekend set from that era. The bloke sitting over Deb’s shoulder never moved! I don’t know if you can make it out in that video, but they put a little red dot on Adelaide on the map.

Ah so it was the studio on the newsroom level, most recently used for ATV News until it moved to the green screen. I thought it was the Sydney backdrop but was confused.

Brisbane later moved to using a similar backdrop, it was less blue.

And Sydney (and Perth) had this version which had the actual newsroom behind it rather than a still image:

Interesting to read this article from NFSA from earlier this year about the 1975 documentary You Just Don’t Realise, presented and produced by ATV0 journalist Phil de Montignie.

This was a time that the road toll in Victoria was around 900 for the year, still in the vicinity of the 1000+ fatalities recorded in earlier years 1969 and 1970. (In 2025, the number of 291)

The documentary screened in prime time in the weeks before Christmas, 1975, and public reaction was so great that ATV repeated it again shortly after. It was also sold for screening across the 0-10 network.

In 1976 it won a TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding Documentary.

And on the Sydney/National/Perth version the dot was over Sydney.

I’m assuming Deb would have just returned from the US.

No this was pre-US stint.
