I found last night that 11 has started airing infomercials after the Late Late Show at around 12:30am for an hour - at the same time as One airs infomercials. Which means odds are all 3 Ten network channels will have infomercials after The Sunday project on Monday Morning - not an ideal situation for Ten viewers if you ask me

Um…who would be up at that time to watch infomercials at 12:30am?

Shift workers and insomniacs for starters…

So, a handful of people really.

?

You’re not going to get primetime figures at that time of night, but there’s a lot of shift workers out there. Obviously they’re not watching live in big numbers.

I see Alive and Cooking is in the schedule for this Tuesday at 3.30pm.

All I am saying that on 11 they should possibly air infomercials at say 4:30am or 5:00am for 1 hour instead of airing them at 12:30am for 1 hour. The viewer numbers would be similar just before 6am to those at 12:30am

But they’re probably not watching telly though. And if they are they would be watching other things in different ways, at that time.

So what’s the point?

Yep, that’s why I said they’re not watching live in big numbers. If there’s nothing good on tv, they’ll probably go for streaming or catchup.

I have in the past suggested that Ten reduce its infomercials overnight on the main channel and move to other times/channels and one of the arguments against it was that for the most part it was only one channel, but when you have the potential of all your channels airing a paid presentation, you risk losing viewers. Ten needs to keep driving programs on the main channel through the secondary channels - remind viewers that it they are on the Ten network channels. Nine doesnt have any time where infomercial overlap on all of their channels and its the same on Seven network except for Thursday mornings 2am to 4am (Please note: not including the racing channel on Seven in my argument as its a specialised channel as is the case with 9Life)

I think Ten should be using the strategy of trying to entice viewers to be on the main channel when they switch off at night because if you can back it up from say 6am with programs people will want to watch, you have the potential to build on your audience throughout the day and the perfect time to market your prime time line up.

As an example, I don’t get home til around 12:30am and put TV on and usually look at what is on offer and watch whatever seems the most interesting (usually on NBN/9 or ABC, but occasionally on one of the WIN channels) and usually leave it on that channel when I switch off at around 1:30am. My wife is also a shift worker so her viewing habits is all over the place

So my argument is based on the fact shift workers watch TV later, yes not enough to encourage stations to put top rating shows on but there is a potential for even encores of some of the newer offering - at one point Nine/NBN aired The Block encores from earlier in the evening at 12:30am. Yes, there is catch up TV but I myself don’t like catch up TV due to slow internet speeds etc

It’s not new, this is the third or fourth week it has been happening.
Get your point, should be 2am after One goes back to normal programming.

Daily Telegraph/Annette Sharp report (so take a grain of salt) that several programs are under review for 2019, and Bev McGarvey is under a stack of CBS scrutiny.

Potentially on the chopping block: I’m a Celebrity, Survivor, Pointless and Bachelorette, with Dancing with the Stars to come.

More here.

As Sharp as a knife made of butter. When she gets facts wrong, you have to question her ‘source’. I’d say she is just guessing.

Seven does have the Australian Open in 2019… or have I missed something?

Yes you did.

The hell? They seriously bringing this back?

Anderson and McGarvey must go!

You are very behind my friend.

If this Annette sharp person is remotely accurate it’s a good thing mcgarvey is under pressure. She has failed time and time again with these programming strategies.

The only saving grace for the network at the moment is they’re commissioning a shit load of content with the hope that something sticks.

I’m also afraid Anderson is too much of a nice guy really and doesn’t have the balls to run a network. He failed with the cricket rights and that was his big test.
