It’s clear the MasterChef grand final will air on this night. It will be the first time since the night of MasterChef finale in 2015 (July 27) that HYBPA will be shown at the later time of 10pm. Ten will be in for a tough fight since most of the finale will be up against the second semi final of Australian Ninja Warrior. Ten will be hoping for a massive viewer switchover once Ninja Warrior finishes at around 9.15pm, to make MasterChef’s ratings more respectable.
Not sure what Ten’s plans are to air the The Wrong Girl and Sisters are, but presuming TWG takes over from Offspring similarly to last year by my rough calculations they’ll be hard pressed to finish Sisters in the same timeslot before the end of the year.
With Bull up to episode 20 tonight and if the season finale airs on Sunday 6th August I reckon Ten would would do well to launch Sisters in the 8:30/9:00pm timeslot from Sunday 13th August if it’s ready to go.
Looking at the start time and length of TBA’s, perhaps Ten has a new schedule planned for Saturdays. There recently has been a 6.30 program for one hour. Perhaps Bachelor encores?
If the new Coight is a success, could we see a reboot of The Comedy Company next? Would Mark Mitchell be willing to reprise his role as Con the fruiterer?
They need to do something and repeats of Bondi Rescue leading out of the news is not the answer no matter what goes after that or what the start time is.
Looking at last nights ratings Ten’s main channel tied with SBS and only the National News made the top 20 as it usually does. Adding a Shark Tank encore to the schedule and having 1 repeat episode of SVU later didn’t seem to make any difference, in fact dragging it down further.
They’ve tried US crime themed nights, many overseas factuals and repeats of Australian ones which are old and tired. I think a new first run Aussie factual or a news related program leading out of the 5pm news would be a good option here, something that the older audience who are watching the news and TV in general on the weekend would stay around for.
Do we think CRAM be a possible contender for Saturday nights? Would be a shame if no one was watching so Sunday’s would be better, Peter mentioned in his post on Instagram he hoped families loved it so seems it may be geared more towards a family friendly demo than say HYBPA?
What they should be doing is looking for the next generation of comedians to put together a sketch show. Maybe some people who are fresh to the game or some graduates from uni revues.
They had skithouse on ten as the last time a sketch show sort of worked. They also had the wedge which wasn’t that good. Fox had that recent one that flopped. But yes a fresh new sketch show could be a thing. Some regular rotating comedies could be a good path to add variety to the schedule.
All this is showing that no matter what new owners they will have to invest in new Australian content to survive.
Skithouse worked about as well as the Big Bite, Let Loose Live, and Open Slather.
I’d argue Conedy Inc: The Late Shift was the last sketch comedy to hit the mark. The fact that Nine gave it a long run in a 10.30 time slot certainly helped.
