Ten Network - Programs and Schedules (2015-Apr 2025)

Completely agree.

Isn’t news the most watched program most nights? And people are already turning off at 9pm anyway.

Exactly - they aren’t retaining an audience later into the evening with a news bulletin if the audience aren’t staying for the programs between the major 7:30 shows and the news - having a news bulletin earlier these days could retain the audience later into the evening.

Late news at 10 for 10 should be the goal.
There’s literally a Project repeat at 11pm anyway usually.

The networks, not just 10 need to give viewers a reason to tune in and perhaps delay uploading episodes to the steaming service attached to give viewers a reason to tune in to that program - eg maybe wait until say Thursday before you upload the Sunday to Tuesday new content and Friday for Wednesday and Thursday new run shows. Yes streaming is the future of television but you need to try and protect and preserve your assets.

I just don’t think overseas content is really that big of an asset. I think David has a point it’s a good opportunity to see if 10 News could get an audience. ITV do it in the UK and it works quite well

That’s is the worst strategy I’ve ever heard. BVOD and SVOD is monetized so these be throwing away revenue.

I am not sure citing regional TV programming patterns of the 1980s is a convincing argument for a 2025 environment.

Agreed. That’s not fair to those putting the kids to bed, still eating dinner, out for some reason or those who finish work late and want to watch these programs at 9:30/10pm on catch up.

What I am illustrating is there is a lot of folks that turn off traditional television services after the news. Some nights i think its at the stage of the switch off being at 7pm to 7:30pm and looking to other media for entertainment.

All networks in Aus do this with late news, it is not mutually exclusive to 10.

While it would be great to have it air at the same time (and earlier) each evening for consistency, the reality is it will probably never happen again - those days are long gone.

Bloated reality shows are partly to blame, but networks obviously want to try to retain viewers as late into the evening as possible which help with overall shares etc. There’s also the theory that there’s a switch off after the late news, rather than say airing 2 episodes of whatever procedural or similar programming off the back of reality which is more likely to retain viewers than trying to sandwich a news bulletin in between. The bulletin is produced in a way it can essentially air whenever and it works for them to schedule accordingly.

Sure, the available ratings we saw for 10’s late news looked relatively healthy last week at an earlier time - at what cost? It’s a 25 min slot and we don’t know what the preceding program rated, or if it affected the networks already dwindling shares.

Also, primetime shares are 6pm to midnight. The networks all say “the later the better”. That is why The Latest on Seven is on at erratic times.

Yes, Ten’s Late News has been rating healthy over the last week at 10pm. And ideally I would love to see it air at that time every night of the year. But we know it won’t happen. As we get into the year, it will regularly be AFTER 10.30pm - with maybe the exception of Fridays, where it has the potential of being earlier than the other nights.

On a separate note, I am surprised 10 havent replaced the normal CBS This Morning with CBS Sunday Morning and CBS Face The Nation tomorrow (Monday) morning as a lead in to the US Presidential Inauguration early Tuesday morning

It gets repeated twice on Peach so not an issue.

Does anyone know what’s happened with Days and Y&R moving to 10?

Nothing has been confirmed or announced about the possibility of them airing on broadcast, still exclusive to 10 play.

Better to have some decent content on Friday & Saturday evening, but the endless repeats of The Dog House & Ambulance continue… 10 are insistent on airing both those franchises to death.

Surely there are similar first-run cheap lifestyle series they could air in the slot, similar to how they picked up Sort Your Life Out last year etc.

Fridays still need some work and at the minimum should really be a local series at 7:30pm year round.

10 have the AACTA Awards on Friday night. Which is great to see. Still waiting to see any ads for this.

And on Saturday night, they have Love It or List It Australia (from Foxtel’s Lifestyle Channel), which is also great. But is surrounded by endless Dog House and Ambulance repeats.
