Yeah I haven’t warmed to it. There’s no immediacy or attention grabbing about it. It just sounds like one of the afternoon sponsored stings they use. It’s weak.

I think after having the Cool Hand Luke theme for awhile, it’s hard to really go back to anything prior that could be as notable or prominent.
What about the Macquaire/Fairfax/Southern Cross theme? Used before the talking lifestyle theme eventually replaced it.

Herald Sun reporting 3AW will source its news from Sydney instead of Melbourne during weekend.

It is only Saturday afternoons and Sunday evenings according to the article.
So there will still be some local news on weekends.

They don’t normally have news on Saturday afternoons anyway due to football. (Although bulletins are still produced for other network stations)
Pretty sure this already occurs to the same or similar extent as being reported.

Indeed that’s what I thought. Melbourne news sometimes heard in Sydney and Sydney news in Melbourne at off-peak times.
Also includes Perth news on 6PR from Melbourne. You notice this when Brian Wilson on weekends has a very local sounding Perth story leading the 3AW news on weekends.

Weekend changes to see some 3AW news bulletins sourced from Sydney
Brian Wilson usually reads Saturday and Sunday afternoons bulletins on 3AW. Both he and Karalee Katsambanis, who presents 3AW’s Sunday night news, will be given alternative shifts.
On Saturday nights, Tapt Media’s national news will come out of 3AW for the rest of the network.

Radio boss Tom Malone said the company was moving to a “more agile news team that can broadcast from any market.”
But he pointed out that on Saturday and Sunday afternoons there are no news bulletins due to the AFL coverage.
“Should we be employing people to sit there not to do the news? That’s not smart business,’’ he said.

3AW broadcasts footy on Saturday so minimal impact, but when AFL is finished what happens?
On a Sunday 3AW has news bulletins at midday, 1pm and 2pm ahead of AFL. You have NSW news being broadcast into 3AW from midday Sunday until 5am on a Monday morning - does Melbourne not deserve a better news service?
Tom Malone says “more agile news team that can broadcast from any market.” If that’s the case why can’t these shits be left in Melbourne? Is 3AW not capable of supplying a national bulletin?

And normal schedule outside of the AFL season, when ‘Grubby’ (yes, he always uncertain about if he’d be back next summer). about the only time I listen to 3AW
Are there any stations that take them? Outside of the metro AMs, the ACE stations would be taking football of some kind.
Exactly the point Tom is making. If it’s just 3MP and Magic taking the news when the AFL is on then there is no real point.
Hardly the same product, but you’d wonder why they don’t take the SCA product given how intertwined they are with LiSTNR etc.
Yep I did a mock of this the night it switched over.
Unless 3AW is contractully obliged to provide news to 3MP and Magic then there is a point. Not sue if the news has to come from 3AW or just from the ‘Tapt’ group though.

Yep, heard Jack Hahn (from Nine Sydney?) into AW Melbourne at midday yesterday.
But couldn’t really notice a Sydney-centric bulletin though. But I don’t particularly like it, considering Sunday afternoons often rate well due to AFL coverage, although IIRC the bulletins don’t or at least years ago didn’t used to operate during the pre show or game coverage.
They have a good mix of stories when they go national but I still think it should still be local. If they don’t broadcast the news due to the football they usually make the news available on the app. During the afternoon I’m in Sydney you can listen to it on 2UE apart from Saturday nights when they have Juke Box Saturday nights and then they have the news starting again from midnight.
I’m surprised they haven’t tried using AI voices in those periods to generate “local” bulletins in those time periods.
