Supermarkets and Retail

This new layout is also used in all stores that have been rolled out in SA and WA, although I believe that all SA and WA locations are also smaller compared to the average east coast aldi.

Aldi stores in some shopping centres in Sydney and Canberra have expanded so they are not as claustrophobic as they were.

thats a nice looking bunnings.

i like how bunnings is trying different things.

when coles indooroopilly moved across the road into the revamped indooroopilly shopping centre they converted the old coles into a multi level bunnings.

it feels much more intimate and less isolating than a huge warehouse

but then it’s not really a warehouse

One of the closest Bunnings to me is fairly new with two levels incl parking underneath and air-conditioning, so no, not much like a warehouse anymore.

A lot of those additional un-warehouse like aesthetics are only there now thanks to Masters.
The nearest Bunnings to me isn’t even big enough to be a “warehouse”, just a basic hardware store format essentially, no a/c and old as fuck.

The new Aldi logo looks like the branding that a cruise ship would use.

The newest Bunning here was a direct result of Masters opening a store. It also saw changes to the already existing Bunnings that is one of their large stores. It was cleansed up, had “tempered” air installed, the outside garden area covered and the concrete floor polished.

Out of the two Bunnings it is surprising the difference in staff culture though. The newer one have staff that acknowledge you as a repeat customer even after just being open a few weeks. At the older store, it is the opposite with seemingly no recognition of regular customers.

The Bunnings at Castle Hill in Sydney also has two levels with basement parking. It’s nice and bright inside.

The have done the same in Alexandria and Kingsgrove plus a level of underground car park. That must be their new model.

Large plots of land in prime locations (especially in Sydney) aren’t cheap or easy to find. Going up instead of out probably saves them a fortune.

If it hasn’t been announced here yet…

Target Australia’s new head office will be located in Williams Landing, Melbourne (on a site adjacent to the Princes Fwy & Train Station). Ceder Woods (a WA based company) was awarded the tender a couple of months ago.

No specific location nor construction details have been announced yet, other than it will be opened around Christmas 2018.

So it looks like last April’s announcement of the company’s near 100 old Geelong HQ closing, will still see it operating with its ~1000 staff for a couple more years yet.

A Target spokesman said it was part of the company “moving forward” (no doubt along with their recent structural/management changes & expected return to profit soon).

They’re not telling us the most important element, where’s the sausages going?

David Jones Macarthur has recently refurbished - will be interesting to see if they mirror that look for their Bondi Junction refurbishment this year which is an A-grade store.

David Jones at The Glen is down to one level (it was two levels when it first opened) due to the shopping centre’s redevelopment. Three apartment towers will be built on top of the mall. Also around 15 stores have closed in the past three months.

Three single apartments?
