Julie head is absolutely nuts, ex leura accord and australia first party crazy from the bad ol days of Jim saleam. World economic forum, United nations reds under the beds nut job
I think this is what radio without someone answering the phone looks like. The station gets out what the station puts in. I did like it when Julie was asked āso what have you done about this, have you taken this to courtā![]()

I was just waiting for waffling Warren or John from the mid north coast to complete my bingo card!!!
Cheralyn, Jono, Matt, Barry, Gary trying so hard to squeeze out a normal chat but the public seems incapable of having a normal conversation.
Itās like the production values these presenters have to navigate . All day today was one of the few days Iāve had no ads playing over promos playing over news, no dead air etc. I do actually like listening but I just donāt get it
Mike Byrne and Peter Schmidt join Super Radio Network
Since midway through 2025, when then joint Managing Directors of the Super Radio Network (SRN) George Caralis and Despina Priala decided to step back to non-executive director roles, the network has made a string of key appointments to enhance its leadership. Today, two more senior executives join the team; Mike Byrne has been appointed Network Content Director, and Peter Schmidt, Group Technology Manager.
Mike, the former WSFM Content Director, will be based in Newcastle, overseeing and enhancing the networkās local content offerings, while also contributing to broader group-wide content strategy. He commences early February.
Pete Schmidt returns to the industry after more than a decade working privately and for organisations in IT, management and promotional roles.
Paging @RabbitEars ![]()
Hereās hoping Mike can find a way to whip the AM network into shape.
Bring in a classic hits format. Job done.
Bring in the FUN playlist with local IDs and sweepers replacing the talkback network.
I know. Itās not rocket science. Thereās no competition in those small 2 station SRN markets, just play classic hits and presto.
Holly smokes more top brass for stupid lalala network, this network will not be entertaining until the presenters are in an electric chair that I have control over and a mild to medium shock to callers.
Only then will it be bzzzzxt entertaining.
imagine that !
Everytime Maree from the shire says āthereās nothing we couldnāt make, build or doā sheās gets an electric shock. Or when Mike James says gay people are also pedophilesā a giant lightning bolt attacks him from his outside window into the studio.
Or when Glen the Truckie says the word āvaccineā he gets a good old fashioned 120 volts.
What does everyone make of all this ? SRN have no money, yet throws around big wages for all this management.
Yet more industry hires. How about improved your social media, website and production values
what do you all think this is about ? Format change or do you think there could be a spotlight on station managers, who have probably been decades at these SRN stations and have a lot to answer for
The best of SRN has always been the local stations diverging from the network to cater for their market, so imposing more top down management is the opposite lesson.
Iād be surprised if they get paid anything like what a similar role at ARN or SCA does.
More like award wages and a free book of coupons.
I wonder what Bill would have made of all these staff ![]()
From what he said previously I doubt Mike Byrne ever thought heād be back in radio but hopefully he can make a difference and we see some improvements.
They make reasonable money. Theyāre just tight as a fishes arsehole and refuse to spend any money.
Agreed. All these hires are washed up exec from other networks who are lucky to have a job now.
Its good to see Pete back - he was a loss to the industry after he left what is now SCA Gold Coast.
Unfortunately many broadcasting managers in coastal lifestyle places like the Gold Coast think their staff have no other option but work for the conditions they offer. Low award wages simply donāt work in those places anymore with Gold Coast rents now similar to Sydney. In a lot of country towns there is nothing vacant to rent so you will be living at the Pub which is a frightening prospect on award wages.
I too am excited to see what Mike Byrne brings to the SRN table.
There is such a mish-mash of formats across all SRN AM & FM stations right now. It needs some clear direction, or categorising. Maybe have a CHR stream & Hot AC stream for the FMās (with rock for Bathurst & Newcastle), and then maybe either a Classic Hits music format & talk format for the AMās? That way, each regional could opt-in to whichever format best suits their markets.
And yes, Iād share all of the above of DAB+ into Sydney.
Matt Roberts seems to have his voice used on commercials across the network plus the media platforms as well, perhaps thatās why presenters do the talk back radio thing, itās a gateway to something better.
Probably more cost saving in not employing a separate VO person for ads?
Yeah I get that, but if you had a production facility and you could do adds for Mr google for better chips, you would, wouldnāt you? Having voice talent taking talk back callers seems like a waste when they could be used to voice other things.
Will be interesting to see what Mike Byrne brings to the table. I mean.. actually .. brings to the table.
Some of you seem very positive about it.
As I keep saying I think many of the presenters are doing well with the cattle they have to work with (callers) and the production issues they seem to have (unnecessary music repetition, ad issues, dead air, promo issues)
